Note me
So I decided to move to Florida to be near my mother and boyfriend. The move was exhausting and I was especially worn out. I just figured it was stress and some gall bladder issues. After about a week or so, my daughter noticed that my eyes looked a little yellow, then we realized my skin was slightly yellow as well. So not having a doctor or insurance I went to the ER. They informed me that it was not my gall bladder but they believed it to be my liver. They admitted me, I was in for a week and diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer that has metastasized to my liver and two small spots on my right lung. Tomorrow I have my first visit with an oncologist.
Let me just tell you, don't move and make sure you have insurance before you decide to get cancer or you will have a fun time getting any help at all. The hospital helped me file for Medicaid which could take me up to 30 days to get approved. If I didn't have my daughter with me I couldn't even get that. On top of that, all these "charities" that help you when you get cancer, well guess what, you have to be a resident for six months before they will help you. At this point I don't have six months or even 30 days to wait. I need care now. Most cancer centers will not bother with you if you don't have insurance or Medicaid. Some won't even take you with Medicaid. Luckily I found a local center that will work with me until Medicaid kicks in. Just pray I get the help I need quick.
I am trying to keep a positive outlook on everything, but just getting into an oncologist has been an uphill battle. I'm ready for the rest, just get me the doctor! The good part is I moved in with my mom and there is no place I would rather be during a time like this. There is no place like home, and no one like your mom to help you through something this big.
