Just wanted to say that your art motivates me to challenge myself to improve my art *a lot*.
You're like my map-making idol. I want to learn to do maps like you do them. With beautiful frames and dimed brown-ish old looking colors and everything. And more 3D-ish when it comes to cillages as well.
It's even more so given that I want to use the same techniques (watercolor and ink on paper)

I can't even say which one of your piees is my favorite, but I definitely love this one.

Of course, totally deserved :D *huging back*
Can I ask you something? How do you achieve those muted colors, that give that old map fair that you have in all of your maps?

One of the things that help me to achieve those muted colours is a first watercolour wash that I usually paint before colouring the map.
It's a mix of brown colours like raw umber and sienna.

Oh. OH! Yeah, that makes sense. Coffee. Some people use coffee, don't they?  Thank you :D I will most definitely try that!
(BTW, I think it's really sad there are so few videos on your youtube-channel. You are the very best fantasy map artist I know of, and the only map related video I can find of you is the inking-process video Which is awesome, but I'd love to see much more).
Anyway, back to my own map :) I'll link it here, so you can see what I did with the tip :3

I have tried to use coffee and to make some experiments with it. Using watercolours you can mix different colours to obtain the right mood for your project while with coffee the final result is always the same more or less.
Also coffee tends to melt...and to be drank before you can use it :D

I'd love to take more videos. The problem is that it takes time and at the moment I'm so busy...I promise I will make more in the future :)

Looking forward to see your next map!

Can I ask you at what point you work in the tones of beige and brown? After the inking? At the very end? Do you dip it in a trunk full of it, or do you brush it onto the paper? Do you just "drip" water on it to get those beautiful effects, or do you do that in some more controlled manner? I am really trying to learn :D And you are simply fabulous.

:) I work on the brown tones after inking the map. I paint all the image in brown, dripping water and colour here and there, following my instinct and the light and shadows of the image underneath.
Once it is dry I move on with colours.
I hope I have been of help ;)

The amount of details here is astounding.  The sheer amount of time put into this has to be appreciated.  Great work here.  What kind of ink did you use to get such details?  And how many attempts did it take to get the final copy?

Thank you for your kind words!
I usually ink my maps using nibs of different size and Liquitex Acrylic Ink.
In this case I started with a rough sketch, moving all the elemnts around in order to obtain a balanced composition.
Once I was happy with it I moved forward with the final detailed drawing and finally I inked and coloured it :)

Thank you for the information.  I may look into those for future projects.  I can certainly understand the composition portion, moving things till they fit.  Again, great work.  Thank you for the response.
