Welcome to the Badlands by FramedByNature Welcome to the Badlands by FramedByNature
Canon 60D
Star trail stack

Shot this last weekend while on a spur-of-the-moment trip to the badlands. *INTOtheRFD, Tyler Burg, Mike Hollingshead, and I raced out there in hopes of catching an auroral display off of a couple M-flares from the sun. Auroras didn't happen, but as you can see we ended up with plenty of good stuff ;) Lots to come!

Please tell me what you think!

Very nice. What is creating the lighting on the walkway?

It might be on the boardwalk, with glow-in-the-dark paint or something

Pretty Badass :D There's so much to like in this picture: of course the star trails (and moon trail?), the clouds (which seem to not have moved during the long exposure :eyepopping:), the yellow light in the background and the light painting :D (which adds a very indiviual touch). Really great work ;)

Thanks so much, man! We were frustrated with those clouds. Wanted them to get out of there so we could have clear star trails. They ended up being stationary enough that it really wasn't a problem though, gave it some depth. Even had a little virga under them lit up by some distant light pollution. This was before the moon rose, so believe it or not, that's Jupiter and Venus on the left ;)

hmph. I didn't realise that Mars had boardwalks ;)

how did you and the crew do the letters without getting the way of the shot?

Haha, they're just getting their colony settled ;)
It's tough to not get your legs in the shot. Had to run back down there and basically write the letters from an angle where my legs weren't between the light and the camera :)

That's great! I love the way the passing of the clouds blocked the stars abstractly. It ends up looking rather shimmer in that area which is very cool. What caused the diagonal light across the foreground?

Thanks! Yeah got lucky with that. Didn't like the clouds at first but I love the depth they added. They were nearly stationary, too, so they didn't mess up the trail too bad. The diagonal light was from *INTOtheRFD holding a flashlight, I believe =D

See why can't Doctor Who film at the Badlands, they look more alien than their silly quarries.

Anyway this is epic! xD I love it.

That would be awesome! Believe they had a show filmed in the southwest. Badlands may have too many tourists depending on when they film.
