Regarding Manjaro I couldn't manage its software center, maybe cause they announced the support for 32-bits would be ceased. So my final choice for this my slowest laptop became Peppermint with an “easy to hand” LXDE-desktop with cool appearance and many cool wallpapers

I from the very first occasion, when I saw the “free update to Windows 10” icon on my Windows 7 stationary computer, been very skeptical. When Win 7 arrived after the catastrophe Windows Vista, there was NO free update for Vista users or even no reduced prizeSo “new cool back doors for NSA” I thought. Being happy with my choice of Win 7 instead of Win 8, when I bough my 4 core stationary at summer 2012, I saw really no reason for reservation of a Win 10 copy. Especially since Win 7 at least has a very awesome interface
Now I have a friend who for some week ago upgraded to Win 10 from,
Testing fedoraI recently received a 9 years old big laptop from a fellow from which I blown away old Windows Vista, replacing it with the Linux distribution fedora. I already tested two other Linux distros, Ubuntu and Linux Mint on two mini laptops. The latter one has been my “laptop in use” for about seven month now cause Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, have affairs with Amazon and now recently Microsoft. Linux Mint, like Ubuntu is very easy to install, and user friendly. For me it's one disadvantage with Mint, it's user interface is too similar to Win XP, even if there is a bigger flexibility in Mint. However for maybe
Don't through away old laptopsDon't through away your old laptop if the hardware is OK! Give it a second chance by install a user friendly GNU/Linux distribution instead!
Why?
- If you mostly intend to write, surf on the web, draw and manipulate pictures, etc, it's pity to through away hardware that actually works.
- Linux generally requires less system resources than Windows.
- Linux, and most software written for Linux, are open source, meaning that the code is public and you are allowed to chance it (if you have knowledge in programming). On the other hand the source code for Windows and MacOS, as well as for software written for those, are secret and you are not allowed to recover it. Thinking about what Snowden has revealed about the mass surveillance by NSA and the back doors NSA has forced Microsoft and Apple to have in their operating systems, so … To run a Linux system on your old computer may be a little bit of the ans
Take care and don’t let your laptops become overheated with Windows 10 these hot days!
