Unfortunately I couldn't edit the pre-existing file to this PDF so I had to resubmit, DA is weird like that.

The art was done by the amazing :iconsilvervanadis:

Fox belongs to me

Batman et al belongs to DC comics
Ronin/Joseph Kane as mentioned belongs to Daniel Kalban :icondkalban:</u>

The hyper tactical mind and the pre-planning, knowing how to beat his enemies, is a huge link to Batman. Which makes it perfectly understandable that he finds himself at odds with others. Figure most of them don't like it when Batman does and says that stuff, lol.

Fox and Ellie would be able to bond over the feeling of not being able to live a life outside of vigilantism. Ellie won't admit it to herself, but Angie is well aware Ellie seems to be hiding behind Immolation as a way to avoid living a normal life because she's scared she can't be normal.

Other than that, we have discussed Fox's personality and you are well aware of my feelings and thoughts on him.

yeah, you want to burn his parents, give him a demonic drinking buddy and maybe have him wake up in a huggle blanket whilst they all watch samurai Jack together...seriously that is a wonderful thing to want for a character

Speaking of Jack. Last night I was listening to music and a song came up on my playlist that made me think of him. A bit of Ellie, but very much Fox. "Unknown Soldier" by Breaking Benjamin. Heard it?

How did you handle the feels trip I sent you on with that second story btw?

I think it suits Ellie more as the whole thing speaks of wanting to quit their world, whilst Fox is more resigned to his role as warrior

Hi, this is from ProjectComment
Disclaimer: I don't usually leave critiques on character sheets, as I believe those sheets should be for the writer's eyes only, not the audience.
That out of the way, I'll just talk about the technical aspects of this.

A lot of effort has gone into this, which is always a nice thing to see in written works, there's a lot of depth to the character, which is also a big plus that helps with relating to the character. Fox is an interesting character, I like how you successfully inserted him into the batman universe, it feels very natural to see him there.

There are some errors in regards of punctuation, and some sentences could be phrased better, nothing major, though, so it doesn't affect the reading, I'm just a bit of a nitpicker

I agree with Zara's critique about the repetition and formatting. Submitting this as a literature deviation is a matter of preference more than anything

The biggest point I want to make about this is that this is a character sheet, I can't provide a 100% useful critique. This is you just letting us know what your character is like, and it's very well written, I won't deny this. The biggest question is can you implement this character with all its traits in a story? Telling is easy,  but showing the character in action is a bit tricky and that's what you should be focusing on in order to successfully bring Fox to life through the stories you might have written about him, but I think you're on a very good track in that regard, but maybe you'll find these writing guides helpful if you ever need some useful tricks? illuminara.deviantart.com/gall…

keep it up

Thank you for your indepth review and thank you for providing some additional support with the guide link. Showing these traits in a story particularly with comics is good because you can show them over the issues, develop the character through the arc

With all this he could end up in Arkham

Arkham is for the criminally insane, and I don't think anyone is gonna out him as a vigilante, not anyone who can prove it at the very least

Yeah, the devil is in the detail. He'd need to be framed for a criminally insane act, anyway he does have a therapist so he is getting professional help

Plus in order for him to be sent to arkham someone would have to know his secret identity and frame his civilian identity for a criminally insane act. That would be tricky and also their be a conflict of alibis. The fact that he'd be in two places at once would raise alarm bells among the police and it would lend itself for further investigation, during which jack would be held under house arrest and be sent nowhere near arkham.

Lots of DC criminals can pull that off nowadays

True, but that's where the conflict of alibis come in. They will have CCTV of Jack Dahl committing the crime, and then counter CCTV from Jack's friends of him being somewhere else. And with the police aware of such criminals as Jane Doe, Clayface et al they aren't going to send Jack straight to Arkham based on that.

It sounds like you put a lot of thought into your character's background and life story. You've developed a layered personality with a lot of drive and purpose. I like that you link personality traits to development from past events rather than leaving them unexplained. It gives more flavor to the character and makes them feel like they have a life beyond the story moment they exist in.

He sounds like more of an antihero than a hero, despite his reluctance to kill. I think that fits with the Batman universe, though it's been awhile since I read any of the comics. I can't imagine Bats approves of near torture, but that fits with Fox's overall descriptor here - approval is not what he's seeking. Perhaps expiation?

I'm not sure why you chose to upload this deviation as a pdf - it would have been easier to read, I think, as just a standard literature deviation with an image insert or preview. The formatting on the pdf needs a little work - nothing major. The titles should be on the same page as the text, and perhaps more paragraph breaks would make it easier to read.

I didn't notice any major spelling or grammar issues. Your character profile is well written. You do tend to reiterate certain personality traits. If you edit for repetition you may be able to shorten the length of the piece and keep it more concise. I don't know if you'd want to though - length isn't always a concern.

Overall, I enjoyed reading your character profile. Jack Dahl sounds like an interesting fellow - more fun to read about than to know ^_^ Thanks for sharing!

I'd say he's more of a modern hero than anti hero, he doesn't kill and when he does do extreme things they are always for the overarching goal of the heroic pursuit, so that makes him more gray. I uploaded it into PDF because it's easier to upload big chunks that way actually, removing the word limit which in the past has vexed me, as for repetition I tried to make it all link together to try and explain it all. Also what does more fun to read about than to know mean? Before you answer thank you for your comment

I guess the torture or near torture bits and your frequent references to his brutality are what made me think of him as an antihero. Of course, I think Batman is an antihero too, despite his not killing ^^

More fun to read than know just means I'd rather read about a character like him than to meet him in real life. Charming people with a controlled rage streak are a bit scary in person.

And you're welcome ^_^

True it takes a certain group of people to be cool with someone like Jack. Also consider the targets of his brutality, rapists, killers and the like

I'm still surprised that he can be depressive. He seems so optimistic and Seems to be the insane maniac that I would hang out with and play Star Wars Battlefront.

Well I did not know that he was fanatically loyal to Bats. He seems like the type to disobey Batman when a certain Criminal (like Deathstroke or Bane) is involved. The Giant Sword gave me the impression.

He is loyal to what batman represents, he will not follow batman's rules to the letter if he feels it stops him catching the bad guy and indeed he does try to keep batman out of the loop when personal criminals are involved.

Hope doesn't help anything good happen, nor does it stop anything bad from happening.

Its just a weapon used on the Broken to keep Society running.

Dreamers are valued on their ability to Whore out their Ideas, The meek are stepped on by the privileged, and the Lonely remain alone addicted to the only social comfort the Internet.

Hope is the Perfect bait, because the ones who set the trap lose nothing when you bite.
