Riddle me this
Once a prominent player in the criminal underworld as the notorious Riddler, he matched wits with the dark knight which more often or not resulted in him being incarcerated in Arkham Asylum. Then somewhere down the line Edward came under attack by Hush ode to his apparent betrayal in the infamous 'Hush plot', whilst Batman managed to save the Riddler, he was damaged. After a lengthy stay in Arkham Asylum's medical facility he returned, but with a good deal of his memory missing and apparently without the interest in pursuing his career as the Riddler.
Deemed sane he was released back into Gotham as a free man, deciding he couldn't beat Batman as a criminal he opted to outclass him as a detective and became a P.I. Whilst his days of the Riddler are a thing of the past, he still maintains his egotistical personality, albeit toned down to simply arrogant than megalomaniac.
Now a private investigator Edward works inside the law and maintains a professional level of competition with his once sworn enemy batman. Drawn to cases which challenge his intellect he has made a name for himself and has become reasonably wealthy.
However one case lead him into a world he didn't realise, when he was hired by the vampires working with the falcones to track down Psychic he realised there was something big going on, and this knowledge made him a target for his bloodthirsty clients.
Fleeing and using what limited knowledge he had to combat vampires he ran to Angel Row and by happy mistake happened among the person he'd been hired to track down who promptly saved him from his clients.
Realising that the world was at stake and his self-preservation taking hold he manages to talk his way onto the team and becomes the intelligence officer.
Edward is no longer a PI but part of the universal defence team consisting of himself as intelligence, Psychic as the leader, Vlad as techno expertise and Mel as Medical . Also he seems to have forged a romantic bond with miss walker, but don't tell Vlad..it'll annoy him.
Arguably the most important asset to him, Edward would be nothing without his keen mind. It served him well as the Riddler and as a Private investigator and it works well in helping Psychic fight against the Void. He knows every part of Gotham City and can get into virtual any network in town.
Psychic, Vlad and Mel don't exist on record but Edward has an existing account so he serves as the financial broker for the team as any money they come to goes into his holdings.
Whilst not on any superhuman level but experience has taught him that it's always handy to be able to run fast, especially in gotham.
Whilst not as big as when he was the Riddler, Edward maintains the tendency to believe he is the smartest man in the room. This often brings him to blows with Vlad who doesn't meet up to his expectations of higher alien intelligence, which often leaves Edward with a black eye...and they are on the same side.
This has remained adamant since childhood, since an incident with his abusive father Edward is incapable of telling a lie and is mentally deadlocked to always tell the truth. This was linked to his obsession with leaving riddles after committing a crime, a possible admission of guilt.
He just isn't used to being in a committed relationship so it's not hard to believe Mel can make him blush and leave him like a blank dictionary; at a loss for words.
