Homecoming

In the land that reaches for the heavens, a place only they know how to navigate, they return to what is most sacred to them.

Tried an entirely different approach this time, focusing a lot more on values. I also made a mistake with layers that cost me more time to fix than I would have liked, but at least it will be easy to prevent next time.
Overall very happy with this!

Pls try recreate this composition with a detailed, real or at least more defined species of birds of prey. The setting , the environment etc. has too much potential. I will feature it in our group ArsRapax | DeviantArt

I'm glad you like the environment! Can't promise I'll recreate it anytime soon, but I quite like the piece and do think I could improve on it. :)

Awesome!

btw I'll try my guess and say that its a eagle like an Osprey Eagle?

It was inspired by middle-eastern rocs, which are an imaginary species of eagle that is incredibly huge. I suppose they'd be closest to golden eagles if I should name one species.

In Romanian folclore we also have such beasts, closely related to Eastern imperial eagle. They are called Zgripsors ,which is also the symbol l of Habsburgs dynasty. If I think now I believe this would be the most appropriate for this scene.

I see! I'm not at all familiar with Romanian folklore, makes me curious what else you have! ^^

I like the atmospheric conditions. The rock structures are interesting and the depth of field is good. The way the fog/list come together with the sunlight is beautiful and gives us a glimpse of a hidden world. Lovely work. :)

Outstanding work, great job giving depth to this.

Thank you so much! Mist can do wonders on its own, but I think the mountain arches really helped too. ^^

Mist, mountains and arches are all good but do not create depth on their own.

It is the skill of the artist that does. Clarity in front, the right lighting.

Closest wing blurred, crisper with more detail going down.

It is the knowledge and skill of the artist that makes this phenomenal.

Haha, that is of course absolutely true. In that sense, the mist and mountains are more like tools than actual independent depth-creators. I more meant to say that mist, when used right, can work wonders even without many other depth cues.
Thank you for your close observation, I appreciate it! ^^

Love how the mist is hiding parts of the landscape. Gives the whole scene a more mysterious feel. It leaves a lot up to the imagination but gives enough info for your brain to paint the landscape the bird is going to see next. :)
