Triple 'Dream' Catcher

Description

While I really like the idea of dream catchers, and their history, they have become a heavily commercialized and generally watered down image to most people.
That really is unfortunate, since they are beautiful things.

So... I decided I wanted to try to make a dreamcatcher that represented more of an 'energy web' than a traditional dreamcatcher. The three parts represent the spirit, mind, and body. Here's why I decided upon that.

Traditionally (though there are many different stories about this, and this is just one of them), dreamcatchers are meant to protect their owners from bad dreams. The idea is that all dreams are energies in the environment, and when you sleep, your mind is vulnerable / open to them. The web of the dreamcatcher, manned by a 'spider' (represented by a bead on the web itself), would catch bad dreams and let good ones through the hole in the center. Whether you believe such a symbol has physical power, there is no doubting that the mind is a strong, powerful thing capable of physically affecting our bodies. Perhaps the strength of a dreamcatcher lies in the fact the owner believes they are safe, and so their mind is better geared towards good dreams and thoughts. Or perhaps there is something more to it than that.

Either way, I wanted to take the idea of energy in the environment a step further. Our physical bodies, minds, and spirits are constantly under attack by all sorts of energy every day everwhere we go. So I made an 'energy catcher' that represents those different parts. My idea is that it could help catch some of those bad things and let the good parts through. That way it could help with depression, physical sickness, and spiritual malaise, among many other things.

Also, a note on the feathers. The feathers are meant to be more than pretty decorations. Feathers are a symbol of movement, of freedom. They help to guide the energy into and out of the web. :)

This particular piece took me a long time to make, though I am getting a lot faster at weaving. It is about 12" x 22" at its longest / widest points. I plan to make some more soon and get them up for sale on my website. I am also open to dreamcatcher / energy catcher commissions, so drop me an email if you are interested.

this is beautiful. I was wondering if I may use it in an image manipulation project?
