"Its storming are they going to call off the race?" Jackie asked from beside her brother, she was thankful for the covered stanbds but was more concerned for Stephen.

"I don't think so.."

"But there's mud everywhere!"

"Let's just watch and wait, if it gets too bad we'll pull them out," Phillip answered calming his younger sisters nerves only by a little. but it was still something.

Celine let out a stressed grunt, "Maiden went fine. some fine horses out there tonight." she took a place by Jackie and stole some of the girls 'travel blanket' she brought during cold times.

"Seems like Lion has some good competition this time."

"Foxfire, and Aybaz child. Light the night. Never heard of him...he's a newbie from a new racing place called Valkyrie Acres?"

"Camerons Law. BIG boy, he's from Jessies Way."

"The one who owns that pretty little black mare Saint Lauren?"

"Laurent" Celine corrected and pulled some chips from god knows where..

"So far looks like Camerons Law is the favorite."

"He's got long legs of course he is." Celine chirped and munched on the chips, "Big as hell and long legs equal favorite. but I heard he likes to start from the back."

"does he?" Jackie asked gazing at the race card Phillip held

"far as I know." Celine shrugged and dusted crumbs off her shirt as the announcer came on the speaker, the man cleared his throat and greeted everyone in a cheery sing-song voice

"The Devils Mile will continue on schedule. Riders Up"

"I hope they'll be okay!!"

"I'm sure they'll be alright Jackie." Celine stated calmly and slid back into her chair to get a better view, "Here come our champions."

The crowd roared excitedly as the Dom. White colt trotted toward the gate, a little spooky but none the less brave as all get out. he went in easily as if he wanted the race to be over from the start.

Next came Lioness, the Queen of Fox Park lifted her head high and screamed out into the thunderous roar of people and storm combined. Her tail was presented highly and she trotted - No pranced toward the starting gate easily slipping into to her temporary home. Stephen was proud, to say the least, she was getting better at the gates and the attendees loved it, made their job easy...

Next came a nervous snort and a black colt by the name of Light The Night. the Valkyrie horse. Came out looking around. he went in, little harder but still easy enough.

After that came the big boy, the buckskin colt. The attendees had the hardest time with him. not because he was angry, kicking bucking and acting like a rampaging chestnut mare on her heat cycle. but...er because of his booty... He went in just find he was just too big for the gates...

Lion turned and eyed the colt, a spark flashed in her eye and she pawed the ground, Stephen was more focused on the struggle...

Cam was staring off lazily while Attendees pushed on his bottom and two other tried to close the gate.

after a long battle, the winded attendee clambered up the gate and grabbed the bridle of the buckskin. Wheezing as he did, bless this 20-year-old he sounded like an old man!

after a moment of allowed the poor attendant to catch his breath he gave the go ahead and within minutes the horses galloped down the track.

---

"That was an experience."

Jackie giggled loudly about to cry from laughing so hard, hands gripped tight in the blanket.

Celine patted her and shook her head.

"Breeding prospect~" Celine grinned as she saw Phillip take out a notebook and write down the horses name and Jessies Way, the stable.

---

Badum Badum Badum

The thundering of hooves is pounded against Stephens eardrums but it was a welcome sound he was used too, he patted the fillies neck as they kept a strong 3rd place. The track was muddy and the turf was being thrown about aimlessly, as horses hooves dug in searching for a grip the turf gave way and like a shovel it flung it past the horses behind them.

The devil's mile was the last race of the day thank goodness, the Track would surely need time to heal after this entire excursion.  The horses moved to the backstretch and they began to move a little faster still holding back the current standings were Surprise, Camerons Law in front, Foxfire not far behind and light the night edging closer for a pass.

Lioness was unhappy with her current fourth place, she'd had third just a bit ago when Light the Night appeared from nowhere and galloped past her.

Lioness squeaked and shook her head, she wanted to go as fast she could and pass everyone, as usual.

Stephen noted how even though the rain was pelting his face there was a strange wetness coming from his nose, he took a free hand holding Lioness steady and felt he stared at his hand, "Blood?"

He noted that most of the blood was under his nose, on his silks, even on Lioness. The filly didn't notice of course.

He groaned mentally, "A nosebleed NOW of all the times I could have a nosebleed it had to be now!?"

He huffed and wiped his nose on his silk sleeve before pushing Lioness, they were coming toward the final turn and he would be damned if he lost this race all because his nose decided to expel a certainly needed fluid from his body at this very moment.

Jockeys began pushing their horses forward, yells of encouragement being thrown into the ears of their mounts, Lion pushed forward but every step she took another horse was on her trail, she pinned her ears and pushed further, the filly closed her eyes and broke into a full gallop she extended her legs as far as he could slamming them back down and using them as a spring action.

By the end of the race it was so close no one could tell, the crew would have to do a photo check, Lion needed a rest, Stephen needed a nurse for his issue.
