COMIC+MANGA Bitmap Halftoning by =fox-orian is a thorough and informative tutorial that will teach the popular technique to apply texture and shade to drawings by the use of halftone gradients, hence re-creating the effects that are given by laser printers.

COMIC+MANGA Bitmap Halftoning

This new tutorial is what I'm using for my graphic novel project: SYNTHESIS. Take a look to see this kind of half-toning used on finished pages!

View my other tutorials here: [link]

This tutorial is all about getting control over the halftone patterns on a page intended for printing and screen viewing. The settings outlined in the tutorial help you define a specific look, as laser printers by default do not halftone, but instead apply a dot-matrix dither that frankly just doesn't cut it.

This is really only a tutorial on how to create a printable and authentic halftone screen, not Manga Screen Tones. Manga Screen Tones usually have a lot of pre-fabricated patterns and designs [such as those incredibly cliche yet popular glowing feathers] that this tutorial won't help you create. Besides, things are always better when you create them yourself! And thats what this is designed to help you with.

Give it a read and learn something!

Important Note About DPI Setting: The parameters outlined in the tutorial are intended for 600DPI documents. If you're using 300DPI, you may have to half the parameters to get the same sized halftone patterns as the tutorial.
My recommendation is to use 600DPI if you intend on making a comic -- 600DPI documents are a good flexible size!

This is so wonderful, looks SO much easier than faffing about with patterns and brushes and trawling through screentone after screentone, I've had such a nightmare trying to sort my comic out for both web and print :') It might take me a while to get my head around the print vs. screen settings but I'll give it a go! THANK YOU!
Your tutorials are really great. Thanks for taking the time!

I have a question,
how do you copy and paste the halftone image?
I did everything up to that point and I don't know how to do it
