Overlooking a stone wall painted completely white like the wall in the upper right of this photograph in the small village of Ia on Santorini (an island in the Cyclades of Greece) one might see this idealic scene. One mat, or perhaps, one door, two rocks, and three pots resting in the shade of a wall dividing the visible side with a sheer drop down into the Aegean, into the caldera of Thira.

Aside from a small increase in saturation and shadows, this photograph has not been touched. I found no need to change or remove anything, anywhere. One might argue that I could have removed some of the grayish spots on the walls, but I don't see a reason for this. The photo already portrays an ideal location (I'm in love with the village of Ia, so perhaps this is a bit biased), why not allow for some "fault."

There's definately a few ways one might be able to interpret what's to be seen here. One should be sure to not over-look the shadow cast by the flowers, the contrasting blue door, the mat, and the steps leading down from the left. I consider this a conceptual photograph because of this.

Before reading your very informative words I somehow knew it was Santorini - we were there earlier this year and stayed at Smaradgi Hotel Parissa - check these [link] ... [link] - I have more Santorinian shots in my gallery.

Your shot is very beautiful (wish me front door was like it) and very typical of the island ....... thanks for posting it !

Indeed, Santorini has a very distinct style and feel to it. Was there much to do in Parissa? I was on Santorini in late October and Parissa was mostly just locals with not a whole lot going on.

Marco - We were in Santorini 1st week of September and it was indeed quiet but the beach front was quite active with the odd few people on the beach - swimming etc and the restaurantes there too were reasonably patronised mostly in the evenings.
Parissa its self was quiet as far as we were concerned obviously shutting down to the level it was when you arrived - where did you stay while on Santorini ?
The hotel were we stayed the last booking was one week from Oct 6th then the owners were going back to Athens until next holiday season.

I went to the island without any hotel reservation. I expected to be met by some random room hawker, which happened, and my hotel was in Fira right near the bus and taxi station. for $25 a night it was really nice and perfectly located for me to take the transportation methods wherever I pleased.
