1, I watched the new She-ra and one thing really stick out for me. The animation (or storyboard) was a but weird for me, not fluent like other animation. Beside this I'm glad they change some of the outfit for certant characters and the music was good if I remember correctly.
1. I found this post really late, and I've already watched it all. I loved it, the last 1-2 seasons were a little off-putting just because of how different they were from the main show but I still enjoyed them and thought everything was wrapped up nicely.
I am amazed that this thread lived throughout the entire show. Well done everyone.
I thought it was a wonderful show that took a good look at its genre and gave it a funny little nod here and there. There is some A+ characters in the show and the relationship between Catra and She-ra is perhaps one of the deepest ones I've seen in a cartoon or on tv in general. I kind of feared the final season cuz they kept shifting the "badness" for lack of a better term to others and the writers wrote themselves in a corner, like Catra is only bad cuz Hordak and Hordak is only bad cuz Horde Prime so when we got to Horde Prime we just got a cartoon cutout. It also felt incredibly mispaced and just off, missing the brilliance that made the earlier seasons so great.
And um no favorite legendary pokemon. Swinub is pretty cool tho. I used to carry around his card in my wallet all the time until it couldn't take it anymore.
You bring up another good point. They did keep shifting the bad factor from character to character. I kinda think it was started with Shadoweaver; as Catra was always trying to get her praises. If I'm remembering right? It's... been awhile. And I feel like the last season of She-Ra was still really good, considering how most of Netflix's other shows go; but I really don't feel like it was as great as it could have been.
I've watched the reboot. It was a decent show, I found it entertaining to watch and I liked the characters. The ending though...it kind of ruined the whole show for me. A large majority of the fandom seemed to love it but to me it just...eeeuughhhh...didn't sit right. It felt like pure fanservice and didn't really fit with the story in my opinion.
I kinda agree. It felt like they put that in to make fans happy, which while I think everyone deserves to see some representation and well done representation at that; just tossing two characters together because it's popular feels so out of place.
Definitely. I also feel like it kind of bordered on dismissing abuse. There was little to no actual redemption arc for Catra for how horrible she was to everyone especially Adora, and suddenly everything's fine and they're in love? There were absolutely no hints before in the show that the two of them had any sort of romantic interest in each other. It just feels crowbarred, and I really wish they didn't do that because it was a pretty great show otherwise.
The lack of redemption bothers me a lot. Especially with the backstabbing Catra did; and no one questions it? They're just like, "oh, she's here now? Okay.". Not even Glimmer really said anything and she's not stupid. Wtf. Oof, yeah. That's an incredibly weak part. I do wish they had done more with Frosta tho.
I personally always thought they behaved more like sisters. Don't why they needed to have a romantic thing anyway when Netossa and Spinnerella were right there.
Exactly, if they wanted to redeem Catra so bad why didn't they just have her actively work on repairing her friendship with Adora? The romance thing makes no sense, and doesn't work with the story. I wonder what the show writers were thinking honestly.
I don't think they were thinking; at least not as hard as their twitter says they were. I really don't like how all of Catra's bs just gets swept under the rug. Like you said, no actual redemption. No actual consequence and Adora comes off looking stupid cuz she just accepts it.
1) No because I'm not really that interested and I didn't even know She-Ra was a thing before the reboot came out so I don't have any prior attachment to or knowledge of it. But idk, maybe I'll watch it one day.
2) My favorite legendaries are Darkrai, Giratina, and Arceus. My favorite Pokémon in general are Gallade and Sableye
