Pixel-artist? Join the Pixel-Metropolis collaboration
On Mar 29, 2007 I started a project called Pixel-Metropolis.
The purpose of this project is to create a metropolis of isometric pixel-art, consisting of 49 squares (248*248 pixels each, template available here).
Rules/guidelines for participating
- You must use the template provided by ~pixel-metropolis.
- Your contribution must be isometric.
- All basic lines must be of a 1:2 pixel ratio (leading to an angle of approx. 26.565 degrees) like the template provided by ~pixel-metropolis.
- There will only be ONE square (248*248 pixels) per person, so use it wisely.
- The content of your square must have the same scale as the rest of the town (have a look at the ones allready submited, which have been placed here as a temporary solution).
- You can only use pixel-art you have created yourself.
- Obey the deviantART Terms of Service and Etiquette Policy.
- You may place your avatar in your contribution as long as it is a character fitting the scale of the rest of the town.
- Your contribution may (but doesn't have to) be animated. Max 10 frames with 0,1 sec duration.
How to join the collaboration
- First, send an empty note to pixel-metropolis with the subject "Join!". Your gallery will be looked through, and if I like your work, you will recieve a note.
- If you are accepted, you must add pixel-metropolis to your watch list and put our stamp in your journal (if you don't have a subscription, use : deviconpixel-metropolis : without the spaces, which will show our avatar).
How to submit
- Note: You must be a member before you can submit anything to us
- First you upload it to your gallery like you would with any of your other artwork. Put this line: "Submission for the ~pixel-metropolis project" together with any of your other comments in Artist's Comment.
- ixel-metropolis&subject=Submission"Send us a note with the URL to your deviation. Make sure that you write "Submission" in the subject line.
Our chatroom - #pixelmetropolis hasn't really been used that much but I hope that it will be used more.

i have one question by when must my building/s be submitted?
Whenever you wish, but preferably as soon as possible.
is it alright for me to join ...I need something to aim for and I think that I can reach this "brief"

I checked out your gallery, and after having seen this, I am convinced that you should be a part of our project. I'll put you on the members list right away.
thank you i am thinking of two buildings. one that will look like that and/or a japanese building with yen garden
Sounds great, I look forward to see your submission for our project

just wondering can big ones fit in that grid or do i use the size that is done here
because i have a whole bunch of isos in my gallery but not sure if they wanted to be used here

You should try to fit the scale of your submission to the rest of the town.
i'm not sure i understand this but how do i do that since mine are huge
Since pixel-art doesn't turn out very good when resized, I think the best thing you can do is to redraw it at a smaller scale.
true and i don't know how to draw it at a smaller scale it looks pretty hard for me to do
If you have Photoshop, you could scale it down and trace it on a new layer.
i do not have photoshop nor do i know how to use it because i do not own

Time shows.

Tutorials are the good part of this post.
I should join it as well but I think that Im not as good as I should be.

Maybe you can join one of our future pixel-art projects. I have some ideas allready, and I shall reveal them once we are finished with this first project.
RhysD: The Complete Guide to Isometric Pixel Art seems to be dead. Try any of these two mirrors instead: Mirror 1, Mirror 2. Or you could simply Google it
