This is an anime about an arts school where the goal for these girls is to become a star. The main character, Hana, was inspired by a performance she saw from the Stars, called the Starlight, with a childhood friend, who comes back to the school with a completely different personality. She ignores Hana and tries to trick her out of becoming a star after Hana interfered in a Starlight audition on accident. These auditions are highly choreographed fights and the winner of the most fights will become the next big star. I'm only 5 episodes into this anime, so I just wanted to give my initial thoughts on the anime;
1. The main character, Karen, is fine but I think that she's a bit too nice for my liking, especially with her old friend Hikari who kind of treats her like crap. I know their childhood friends, but come on.
2. Hikari is my least favorite character of the show so far. She's just kind of bully-ish to Karen a lot of the time, and it makes it hard for me to like her.
3. The plot is really cool though, having to see all these stars in a special contest to live their dreams, which created a lot more tension in the anime than I thought it would when I first watched it.
4. The fights are my favorite part of this show. They're exciting and have the best animation of the show, along with some awesome action.
5. The music is pretty great too, especially in the fight when it's timed with the fights and the moves. Makes the fights more exciting to watch.
6. There is a lot of lesbian tension in this anime. I'm not sure if anything is confirmed, but if you watch it you'll know what I'm talking about.
7. That talking giraffe is...really random, though a cool character.
8. I do like how this anime tries to give every character a motivation and a background story as to why they want to become stars, making me more interested in the many characters of this anime than I would be if they didn't do that.
9. English dub is fine. Karen is the only voice I remember other than this nerd character, who has this really annoying sounding voice that I can't really describe.
And those are my thoughts on the first 5 episode of Revue Starlight. I would recommend this anime, as it is fun and there are some interesting characters in this anime. Hopefully when I continue to watch this anime, the main characters, Karen and Hikari, will improve.
