Only RE game I've ever owned was RE4 which was superb. Wanted to play RE5 with my friend, but that never happened, and wasn't interested in it after learning how shitty the AI for Shiva was. I don't think I'll be running out to buy this, but anything can happen lol.
Don't get me started on how much I love RE4; That was the first console game I ever got to play, and it's still one of my favorites to this day. I just purchased the HD edition on steam, and I'm so ready to drown in horror-tinted nostalgia. RE5 was decently fun, but it's not "traditionally resident evil"; This was when the games started to become primarily action-oriented, with very few horror elements. And Shiva's AI being shit can likely be chalked up to the fact that the game was essentially designed around co-op, which I was able to play with my brother. That said, I didn't mess around with the game a lot on my own, so yeah. I can't speak on the topic of the AI. Since I moved out of my dad's, I didn't get to play the sixth, but oooooh boy, I've seen enough gameplay and trailers to decide that I'm not interested. I've heard it's pretty bad, and contains no real horror elements, due to it trying to appeal to the general gaming market at the time, which was mostly shooters.
RE7's getting a pc release, so I'm saving my thoughts for when the demo is put up on steam.
Haha your first console game was RE4? Mine was Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt. RE4 was just all kinds of fun, and I'll pick it up again sometime. Had it on my ps2.
Yeah, I just stayed away from RE5. Couldn't get over the stuff I heard about Shiva. You are 100% right about them trying to sell more and more copies. Forgot what RE is about, and this is why they are having to 'restore' the franchise... if that is possible at this point. Let me know what you think of the demo. I'll be curious. Maybe they'll put it on PSN and I can check it out that way.
Sorry I didn't have the benefit of being as ancient as you I never had a console until my dad's girlfriend moved in with her sons, so a lot of my gaming firsts were relatively new. I was ten at the time, and played it on the gamecube, and it was just downhill from there. I only got to play a few classics once my brother picked up a discount N64.
You didn't miss much by skipping RE5, to be honest. And yeah, you're right about how they're having to "restore" the franchise; It's so convoluted at this point, and even as a fan, I have a difficult time explaining what the entire series is about after the past few games. It's nuts. Speaking of the RE7 demo, it's availiable if you're subscribed to PSPlus. I'm trying to avoid as much information about it until we (possibly) get a PC demo, since that's all I've got, but if you're inclined, it's there.
Oi! There's something good about getting old, I just forget what it is.
Haha 10 years old and playing RE4. not quite age appropriate, but I would have been a whiny kid if I didn't get to play the games that I thought would be fun to play. Classics N64? I spose.
I don't see why I can't check out the demo. Haha I guess I should find a youtube vid that explains the RE storyline sometime. That's the only way I'll make sense of it. I'll be sure to give you as many spoilers as I can.
My dad didn't really care about supervising me, my dad's girlfriend bought her sons pretty much whatever they wanted, and I knew nothing about video game ratings. To me, it was just a fun romp with zombies and monsters, and I didn't think much of it. I guess classic is a relative term. I'm mostly referring to things like Mario 64, and RE2. Things that are well known or loved, or had some sort of impact on gaming as a whole.
The demo has nothing to do with the current story line, apparently. From the little I've heard, there's plenty of references to the occult, and ghosts and stuff, and won't even be in the final game. The director said something about it having to do with reintroducing horror and exploration elements. If you look into it, do tell me what you think!
