Henrich und Gretchen by Following-The-Rabbit Henrich und Gretchen by Following-The-Rabbit
Shhh, shhhh. Give me a moment to breathe.
Hmmmmmm... Haaaaaaaaaaaaah.

My Entry for :iconoc-challenge:'s 20th contest: Twisted Fairytales fav.me/d6indj1
Initially, I wanted to go with Pinocchio, or Little Red Riding hood, however I was having trouble with the Pinocchio theme, and I couldn't think of anything for Little Red... and everyone was doing that one, anyway.
That's when I turned to Hansel and Gretel. Funny, I almost forgot that I had two characters that I subconsciously based on the famous pair to begin with: My two little alphas, Henrich and Gretchen.

So, what's the twist? It's pretty simple, really, practically lazy. Rather than being kicked out by their parents, Hansel and Gretel are sent out to hunt the evil witch who lives in the forest. They look ready to kick some enchanted behind, but I'm not exactly sure how this tale will end.
Gonna make one thing clear, no, Idid not take influence from that recent, and rather crappy movie that came out a few months ago. The concept of Hansel and Gretel hunting a witch, rather than being hunted by a witch has always been an idea I liked to play around with, so I'm happy that I finally got to put it on paper.

I tried to make it look like an old photograph, while mixing in the aesthetic of traditional wood prints. First time painting in sepia, too. I was a little worried that the first wash was a little too golden, but eh, I think it looks pretty... okay. Yeah, it looks alright. I'm actually pretty happy with this. c:

Reminder that I too, have a contest open, with a premium, drawings, and 500:points: being offered to first place. Check it out here: fav.me/d6koqhp

Tools: Watercolors and Gouaches (Yellow ochre, burnt umber, and lots of miscellaneous shades of brown), hb pencil, various brown ink pens, bristol paper

This is awesome! It actually looks like a wood carving to me. I think sepia was a very good choice.
I love your interpretation of the fairytale. Haha and I agree that the movie was crappy. I didn't go to see it but I could tell already from the trailer.
Oh, and congratulations on winning :D You deserve it!

Oh my gosh, I was going to say that this reminded me of Hansel and Gretel (With the names somewhat, too) and then I read the description :XD:
But I really love this piece, the background is really beautiful, and so are Henrich + Gretchen themselves! I like how you did it sephia-themed, because it brings it out that more too <3 Lovely job, as always Alice~

It is the best of your drawings. I could look at it for a very long time and if it had cash i would order a print. Fantastic picture and it could be confused with traditional woodcut. Good luck
