Barn owl by flysch Barn owl by flysch

In the past I painted quite a lot of birds of prey, owls too, and the barn owl has been in my mind for quite a while, but I never carried out the idea to paint it. Until now. :p
This piece here took me ages to complete but I’m hugely proud of the outcome: naturally it will be part of my new exhibition (here more info flysch.deviantart.com/journal/… ).

All started with two small wooden boards (10x30 cm) and a bigger one (34x38 cm): the smaller ones were covered with dark magazine scraps, while the bigger one was first covered with newspaper scraps, then with a layer of acrylic silver paint. After a night of drying time, I nailed the small boards on the bigger one, then I started painting the owl with acrylics.

The small boards stick out in a curious 3d effect, giving a sliced appearance to the owl :)

Here you can find the details of the painting from different perspectives flysch.deviantart.com/art/Barn…
