Patience by floydiac Patience by floydiac
The model is a close friend of mine. In my opinion quite photogenic, but I am sure she will dispute that.

The Model is . Drop by her page!!!

This is quite a jump for me. Landscapes and archetecture is my comfort zone, and I am feeling WAY out of my depth. If I have pulled this off, I will try to post more modelled pictures.

The colour original will be posted.

I hope that I have come out with a sepia-toned photo that is not emo. Other than that the photo has not been adapted.

The camera was on the wrong setting (I had the ISO too high) but I think it came out ok. I would take it again, but I am afraid that the weather conditions were really very special for that day. Barely a cloud in the sky. The direction of the sun, compared to the location of the shoot is also very important to me. Besides, I like the angle I got, and despite the many photos I took, this was the best one...

Please tell me what you think!!!

yeah, although this angle has been done before, you havent made it a 'stale' and lifeless shot. I almost didnt recognise Cluck as i dont usually see her from that angle. But I did. The sepia tone is lovely, and no, its not emo-ish. You have the light nicely too, and i commend you for it. if i was brave enough to do portraiture, that would be a shot that i would aspire to aim for but never reach. Congrats!

And what type of camera are you using? SLR, Digi, combi? what? You dont need a tripod. Just use your inventiveness and imagination.

I use a compact digital camera...nothing special...I can't afford an SLR. It is listed to the side of the description :)

Dude, no, I have to comment again, I really really like this, this is not perfect in the technical sense but kudos for that (in my opinion) I hate sterile pictures, and this my friend isn't sterile. You somehow took something thats been done to death and individualised it. Great!

the sepia tint works very well too! couldn't quite picture it when you mentioned it earlier but.. it you have definetly pulled it off here without any emo-ness! :D

No problem...

Yeah, I didn't age the photo too much, so the sepia toning was not too much. Which is nice.

(people he asked me to comment) first of all ignore the ISO and the Apeture setting all that just stick to what oyu think looks god dont over complicate things. secondly we all know and love the low angle shots which show off the facial feautres but tbh they have been done to death and from the stuff we have seen before we know you can do better. portraits are always going to be hard and with the camera your using having had past experiences with that make myself. would not be my choice of camera i have a spare camera you could borrow which i have set up for portrait shots if your are interested. regards Jay

In addition to my first reply:

Do you think I should continue with models? Or maybe stick to nature and archetecture...things like that...?

well its totally up toyou photography is and always will be a personal responce to a situation so it doesnt really matter what i think. everyones new to photography as the situation is a one and only chance so how can someone be experienced at it :P just try didfferent things and ignore the ISO's

I should clarify that the only reason why I was fiddling with the ISO was for abstract pistures involving lights in dark spaces. I do not change things like that for a normal shot...I let the camera do that for me. :D

What I need is a tripod. It is hard to get a picture straight, and I don't like using the "perspective correction" on PSPX.

you dont really need a tripod what you do need however is to use natural tripods

Yeah, that angle has been done a lot. I understand it is not original. Portraits are new to me though, so I need to work on the basics before I try to move up in the world...so to speak. I didn't mean to fiddle with the ISO. I had been playing around with it in low light, and forgot to switch it back to automatic.

Changing the angles/style etc to make more my own is not necessary at the moment. You forget, I am quite new to photography :D

Don't worry about the "people he asked me to comment" thing, that is why I put "advanced critique encouraged."

I will think about borrowing your camera...but I may leave it until I have moved forward a bit. In the last...like...all of the photos I have done, there is a silly mistake that marrs them. I need to break that habit before I do anything.
