15x12" - inkwash

Howdy everyone! :iconbummiesplz:

I know that I market myself as a vector artist/animator, but that doesn't mean I still don't have the foundational skills in place to create some fancy fine art. ^^ This piece was created during my stay at the Savannah College of Art & Design for my Drawing I class back in 2008. I laid down the base drawing with a light 5H pencil and then used inkwash to "color" everything in.

Feel free to let me know what you think!

I could totally see the couple from "Paperman" walking through this picture on a date.

The reference and vanishing points on this are awesome. How big was the original for this much detail? I like the ink wash, it gives it an old-photo feel.

The original was 15x12" (so not that large). I had to set the vanishing point a good twenty feet away though on either side. I used a tack with an insanely long string attached to it for my "ruler".

This what your school looks like from the outside?

Nah - this is just what all of the other buildings in Old Town Savannah look like from the outside ^^

Oh. You should see St. Augustine, Florida. Now THOSE buildings, are old, my friend. Speaking of that, have you ever come down from Georgia, and visited us Floridians? Just a random question. :sherlock:

Yup! I take a yearly visit to the Jacksonville Zoo every May. ^^

Really? That's cool. What day do you plan on going, exactly? As a native Floridian, I may be able to help you with the scheduling for the time you arrive, so I'll let you know when its an O.K and its open. sound like a deal? :handshake:

I had to do a double-take when I saw you uploaded all these still life and landscape pictures on your DA, haha. That's wonderful you decided to do that; it's something I really need to do as well with the work I've made for my drawing classes so far.

This really turned out nice, by the way. Sure, the proportions are kinda skewed on a couple things (the sidewalk, some of the panels on the roof), but the building itself looks really solid in terms of perspective and the base drawing. And using inkwash to give it some grayscale colors gives it a look that I personally really like too. Great work man! :D

Very nice! I'm presuming this was a building you were looking at, yet it has a cartoonish feel from the base lines and lettering on the sides. This isn't a bad thing, mind you. I like it.

Thanks! ^^ And yuppers, it's a real building near my apartment. I just "cartoonanized" it a bit.
