Description

My project of building a Monado replica.
It has joints for open and close, switches for LEDs and El wire.
It's core is made of thin wood, with metal parts for stability.
I modeled the surface with construction foam.
The symbols are graved on multilayered acrylic glass, each of it has its own LED circuit, which are controlled by a stepping switch.
The laser is made of a acrylic glass pipe, filled with transparent UV dye, that reacts with UV LED light and tuns blue.

It's at version 0.8 right now, because it misses a better surface, laser and EL device.
Current surface is made of papermachee, but it will have a fibreglass coating, colored with metallic paint in the future.

Material cost: 250 € (this is about 314 in $)
Time taken: 3 Months

It was worn the first time at Wie.Mai.Kai 2012 Anime/Manga convention in Germany.

I made a video about moving and lightning on Youtube:

I don't take commissions on this one, i made it only for private use.

Now, I’m no engineer, but you know those Disney lightsabers? They have those plastic pipes that extend to give the sword a form. If this replica can open up, couldn’t you put two of those pipes but thicker in there so that when it opens it could act like a lightsaber? Maybe you could even add some springs to make it automatically come out with the press of a button. But again, I’m not an engineer so this probably sounds stupid, but I couldn’t stop thin about it.
