OLD: gee, how come you get to have six moms?

hello all! i've finally finished the portrait refs for the main characters for my next gen!!! this is my first major project ive made in photoshop/on my tablet and it kinda shows but im proud nonetheless!

so, i'm about to spew out some lore stuff/revisions to the mlp:fim canon



firstly, applejack and pinkie don't have a romantic relationship. they're very close, but putting the two in a romantic relationship seems weird the more i think about it. no matter how much i try to mentally edit canon and pretend that pinkie apple pie didn't happen... just eh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ not worth the trouble in mentally arguing with myself over it

in my revision of the FIM universe, there are no naturally-born alicorns that have the types of immense power that the princesses have. there can be hybrids and genetic accidents that breed alicorns, but they are not technically alicorns. "true" alicorns are only created when a pony demonstrates immense magical potential and is able to tap into it without becoming corrupted by it; only then can they ascend to proper alicornhood and harness their potential for powerful magic. alicorns are always royalty or hold some important rank or title.

there are two types of alicorns: immortals, such as celestia and luna, or mortal alicorns, like twilight and cadence. both types of alicorns are naturally taller and they have more intricate appearances than other ponies (i.e. sparkles, flowing manes) because of the magic that was released into their bodies during the ascension process. immortal alicorns never show signs of physical age, only ever growing in size and design as they continue to harness their magic. mortal alicorns age similarly to normal ponies and have a normal lifespan, but they show less signs of physical age until they are very old.

when twilight ascends to alicornhood, she gains the title of "princess of friendship" and does not become immortal or eventually take the place of celestia and luna. she opens her school of friendship in ponyville as per canon, and gets married to her 5 girlfriends who helped her gain her title as princess!! all of them chose informal titles that really have no correlation to their actual royal rank or political position. twilight just let them go ham

the young six have graduated from twilight's school at this point, and have taken the place of the mane six as teachers and as the new elements of harmony. the mane six are getting older and don't quite have the energy or the physical ability to fight evil like they used to, so they did some personal one-on-one element lessons with the young six and the tree accepted them as the new elements!

twilight is headmare, starlight is vice-headmare, and the class sections have expanded beyond friendship lessons due to the school's popularity.




now some character info and headcanons!!
i think that as they get older, ponies' coats and manes naturally get greyer before they start wrinkling or anything similar. that's why the mane six are a little washed out compared to the kiddos.
and one more thing: the curvature of a unicorn's horn often determines their magical potential! the more curved the horn, the more potential for powerful magic.

about: their appearance, talent, hobbies, and demeanor are very off-putting and strange at first glance, but they are very genuine and mellow. thoughtful and often drifting off into their own little world. they actually fall asleep a lot in weird places; it's not uncommon to stumble over daisy sleeping on the ground in the middle of the day.

about: "smells like teen spirit": pony edition. SUPER dark and rebellious! fuck the system!! she's so hardcore and awesome, and would die for her awful punk band. wait, no one look at his report card-- it's all A'a? a perfect attendance record? what's this book of poetry under his bed? underneath the layers of tough punk exterior is a sensitive heart.

about: hotshot has a knack for being in the spotlight. decathalons, 5k races, rodeos, weightlifting competitions, food challenges at local restaurants... they just love performing, boasting, and showing off. she's never actually good at things the first time around, but has incredible dedication and a heavy tendency to get competitive.

talent: comedy
about: sad sack, worry wart, et cetera... sunny is seemingly always downtrodden and monotonous to the point where it's hilarious. her sadness is not genuine or meant to be interpreted as depression; she is actually quite content with her life, but thinks that's uncool and attempts to mask her excitement and happiness with comedic misery. eeyore pony.

cutie mark: a stack of books and a quill
talent: historian
about: so bookish and mousy, and absolutely adores history. she has a stutter and spends a majority of her time silently reading and absorbing tons of information. though she might not speak freely in most conversations, she can go on long tangents about historical events. full of sage wisdom and is excellent at giving advice despite her young age.

talent: N/A
about: the forever baby of the family. very sweet and gentle. wonder was the result of an experimental spell created by twilight that would magically combine all six of her mothers' genes. her impressive appearance may convince you otherwise, but wonder's horn and wings will develop to be nearly useless as she ages. she sees the best in every situation, but has a lot to learn about life and friendship



AND THAT'S IT. whew, that was so much. so many children. anyways, i'll probably be developing more in-depth reference sheets for these characters individually! after i take a break, of course. if you read all of this i will teleport to your house and kiss you on the lips
