Street Magician: The Photography of Chris Weeks

The Street Photography of Chris Weeks
:icontechgnotic:
by techgnotic
It was only after many long frustrating hours of trying to describe what’s so special about the photographs of cweeks...
That I finally realized I was trying to describe something that wasn’t there.
I finally realized that the magical something that sets cweeks’ works apart from others is that his camera disappears. There is no sense as you look at his photos of street scenes and other captures that you are looking through a lens, even the lens of a particularly talented photographer.  There is a sense of simply walking through a town and seeing what you happen to see – without th

Once again, the CV team is here featuring the works of dA's beloved forumers! :la:
Once per month we'll select one active user in the forums and we'll feature his or her gallery. This is someone we believe represents the forums well with both good forum-abilities and art.
As we're kind (and awesome), we also decided to give an opportunity to everybody to get featured! Every month, we'll create a thread in the Deviation Thumbshare Forum with a different theme. This thread will be made into a sticky for easy access. All you have to do is post thumbs from your gallery matching the theme and, at the end of the month, we'll select our favorite thumbs from that thread and feature them in the next news article :)
The best thing is that the only requirement is that you're an active member of the forums!

Traditional Tuesdays #11
Hello, and welcome to Traditional Tuesdays. This article features some
of the great traditional artwork that has been uploaded to the
traditional galleries in the last few weeks. You might also find some
artwork that comes from whatever word pops into my head and into the
search bar. There is way too much awesome work added to these galleries
everyday to show you a tenth of it, so I'll just keep it to fifteen of
the ones that made me go WOW!

I wish there was more time in the day to browse this awesome gallery,
but alas,  that's not going to happen. All of this was just me browsing
through the sub categories for a couple of hours. You should see what
you can find!

deviantART and Journal spam: what we're doing!
Spam is a constant thorn in the side of every Internet user's daily life. From the mundane to the surreal, these emails appear in our inboxes so frequently, messages from South African attorneys offering $10 million dollars get marked as spam without a second thought to savvy users.
We define spam as the misuse of communication systems to send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately to our deviants.  Typically, the content of spam messages is aimed at advertising a product that is often counterfeit or potentially malicious.  With the rise of social networking, there's been an increase in more direct spamming -- companies who directly target your social network profiles.
"Over the last few years, deviantART has had a small but unfortunate stream of such abuse.  Usually, it’s as easy as banning the offending members and moving on to more pressing problems, but recently something happened that caused us to re-evaluate how we handle spam issues."

Sta.sh: deviantART's Enhanced Publishing Platform
Sta.sh is deviantART's new upload and publishing platform -- home to all of your images, writings, Flash/animations, and everything in between.  Once you've uploaded something via Sta.sh, you'll be provided a special URL.  This URL is known only to you and can be shared with others before officially publishing the work to deviantART.  But that's not all!  While this version of Sta.sh is fully functioning, it will soon also allow the ability publish to other major platforms on the Web in addition to deviantART.
:target:  How does it work?
:bulletyellow:  Drag and drop as many files as you'd like into your Sta.sh (up to 2 GB), or use the "Upload Files" button.  Sta.sh offers faster uploads than ever before.  Submissions will stay in your Sta.sh, and not appear in your deviantART Gallery or to your Watchers, until you say so.

Community Volunteers - A Memoir!
You may recently have seen  -> Our Favourite Memories and Moments an awesome article written by fourteenthstar bringing together lots of dA staff members memories and moments.
So The Community Volunteers got chatting and we decided we needed our own collection of memories - because we have some awesome ones!
With the merge of the Gallery Moderators and MN@ Volunteers has come the collaboration of one BIG team and it's lovely getting to know the 'other side' so to speak. So it's with great delight that I share our massive response to fourteenthstar's article with Community Volunteers - Our Memories

I cannot pick a single memory, but I would say that whenever someone tells me that the DD I gave them made their day and that they are so happy makes me smile. That, and the time I saw MyntKat's butt on webcam.

Vector Art Contest: Self
:star: Vector Art Contest: Self :star:
:star: Vector Art Contest: Self
The Vector Community is full of portraits and pieces of men and women... of people we know, people we know of and people we admire. If there is one person we should know most of is ourselves.
If you're a vector artist, this is the contest for you. We're asking you to create a self portrait. You can take this theme in many ways... you could simple vector a photograph of yourself, you could create a piece which is representative of who you are or even create a vector character of how you see yourself, it is open for your own imagination to play with! Remember often a portrait is more than just a representation of a photograph!
As part of the vector contest, it is my pleasure to confirm CrisVector will be helping me with judging all the contest pieces! Both of us have experience in vector portraits as well as creating our own vector self portraits.

A Blurb About Me

I joined dA back in January of 2005 and I was instantly addicted. Amazed that I found a place where I could share my hobby while I tried to improve on it. Still working on that part, by the way!

I was shocked when I received senior status at the tail end of July/early August 2006. (I was in shock for so long I don't remember the exact date.) Even more shocked in September of 2008 when they decided to actually let me help out with the forums I've become hopelessly addicted to. 4 years later I'm back to being a senior and trying to get back into being a more active again.
