The New Adventures of Nomi Darklighter Ch. 94
- Chapter 94 -
Caught in a Trap Nomi stared at the First Order officer who tossed Draco a purse, while stormtroopers came out of the room where they were hidden until the secret signal was given. “Thank you for your cooperation, Captain,” the man said before he turned his attention to the Resistance fighter. “Finally; you Rebel scum are more slippery than Fleek eels.” He waved one of the troopers nearer. “Cuff her.” Nomi was still unable to use the Force and had a numb feeling, as if a part of her was missing. She remembered to have had this feeling before. The feeling as if there is a void in the Force. Then the realization hit her like a punch. “You brought Ysalamiri,” she blurted out as the trooper cuffed her as ordered. The officer smirked. “It’s the best way to handle a Jedi, Commander. My late father served under Grand Admiral Thrawn back in the glorious days of the Empire. He told me about those special animals and where to find them. And now the knowledge came in handy. Now I can take revenge on you pesky Rebels,” he glared at his captive. “Revenge? Revenge for what?” The Jedi Master asked with an even voice. She didn’t want to give him the satisfaction to see her tremble in fear. “You dare to ask for what? I will take revenge for my father’s death at D’Qar, when the Fulminatrix was destroyed!” The man was losing his composure and Dracon gave Nomi a look. “You should calm down, Canady,” the pirate said and tried to put a hand on the officer’s arm, but the man pushed him aside. “Take her to the ship,” he barked his order before he stormed for the part of the ship where the small freighter with the Ysalamiri onboard has just landed. Nearby stood the shuttle Canady came with. He walked up the ramp and the hatch closed behind him. Meanwhile the troopers were dragging Nomi to the freighter. There wasn’t much resistance by her since she was in shock. Betrayed by the man she thought of as an ally, a man who was a friend of her children. How could this happen? She stopped a moment and the trooper behind her pushed the muzzle of his blaster rifle in her back. “Move!” The Commander moved and entered the freighter. There she saw the Ysalamiri hanging at racks. After she sat down on a bench a trooper shackled her feet with foot cuffs to the floor. It didn’t take long and the freighter launched.
Back at the Resistance hideout Tasherit was wondering why her mother didn’t make contact as she had promised to do. She looked at Dash Jr. who was monitoring the known First Order frequencies for possible targets and cleared her throat. “Hm?” He turned his attention to his sister. “Mama must be at Draco’s already. Why doesn’t she call us? She promised to do so,” Tasherit looked worried. Her brother shrugged. “Maybe she’s busy to split the loot.” “Doesn’t sound like her, Dash,” Tasherit responded and pulled out her comlink. Then she called her father. Dash Rendar took his comlink when it went off. “Yes?” He asked crisply, frowning at two young men who just dropped a crate. “Hey, more careful, if this would have been detonators you would have blown us apart.” Then he spoke in the comlink. “Sorry…” “It’s me, Papa we’re still waiting for Mama’s call. It’s overdue and I’m worried,” he heard his daughter’s voice. “She might be busy and didn’t find time to call us. You know how this could be,” Dash said but his children could tell that there was a hint of concern in their father’s voice. “Maybe we should call Draco,” he suggested and turned his attention back to the two men who were now busy to pack back the items which have fallen out of the crate. Tasherit cut the connection to her father and walked over to the nearest comm unit and settled down in front of it. She was hailing Draco and waited then for a response. It took a while until she heard the pirate speaking. “Hello, Tash. Why are you calling?” There was a hint of stress in the man’s voice. “I want to ask if the Commander has arrived at yours already. She promised to call upon arrival, but she didn’t,” the young Jedi said. The man at the other side of the connection hesitated for the fraction of a second, which Tasherit registered very well. She wasn’t stupid and knew instantly that Draco was hiding something. The young woman frowned. “The Commander left already. She said that she has seen enough and that she’s needed at base,” the answer came finally. “She left already; without calling us? It doesn’t sound like her,” Tash was pretty sure that the pirate was lying to her. The realization hurt. “Ok, I think she will arrive soon. Thank you, Draco.” Tasherit cut the connection and jumped up from the seat heading to her father. “Mama’s in danger!” Her father looked up from his work. “How do you know?” She told Dash in haste about her call with Draco and the feeling she got. The former mercenary looked thoughtfully at his daughter. “We should spend Draco a visit, Tash,” he finally said, pulling out his comlink to call his sons.
Meanwhile the transport landed on Commodore Canady’s Dreadnought. One of the troopers unshackled Nomi’s feet and pulled her up. “Move, Rebel scum,” he barked and pushed her forward to the hatch and down the ramp. The Commander moved slowly being not overly excited to find herself in a cell soon. There was still the void in the Force, which was sickening. She was pretty sure that there were Ysalamiri onboard as well. This fact was minimizing her chances to escape immensely. She cursed inwardly. Canady really meant business. He wasn’t stupid and actuated by seeking revenge which made him a dangerous opponent. Deep inside the First Order Dreadnought they reached the detention area. A guard opened a cell door and Nomi was dragged there. When she hesitated to enter the cell she got a blaster rifle muzzle rammed in her back. “Enter!” She heard the trooper’s voice behind her and stepped forward. It seemed she wasn’t fast enough for his taste since he rammed the muzzle full force in her back again causing her to fall on her knees. The man laughed and went away as the guard closed the door and locked it. After the door was locked the Jedi Master rose and walked over to the cot, which was standing at the wall opposite. There she curled up wondering if and when she would see Canady again....
