More Serious Cosplay

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 10, 2018, 7:18 PM
I recently uploaded a photo of myself and my friend Alan as Vegeta and Bulma and the response for it has been overwhelmingly positive. Those costumes took us both months to complete and the response to the outcome has really inspired me to get more serious about cosplay. Thank you for all the support and I will upload more cosplay photos for dA soon :) .

I survived ANIME EXPO!!!

Journal Entry: Wed Jun 6, 2018, 1:43 PM
Anime Expo is coming back for more and I don't know if I'll be heading over or not but I'll decide that once I get my first paycheck of the summer but yeah, last summer I attended the second largest convention in the country with no hiccups and smooth sailing throughout, pretty impressive for my first time going to that thing. I found out that last year's AX had 300,000+ people in attendance...HOLY CRAP! I'm shocked that I was in the building in under 10 minutes because the line stretched all the way to the staples center and just wow. But at one point during the con, I spot a very familiar looking person over on the edge of the cosplayers area and i tell my friend Helen "look over to your left." Over there is the one person I was hoping I would not see, my F-ing internet rival in all her glory. Helen whispers to me "get a selfie with her." So I go up to her and she's completely oblivious to who I am which was a relief and she's all 'GET IN HERE SELFIE TIME!" Helen takes the photo and the two of us run. I sent that photo to all my friends in chicago and to this day, she has no idea that it was me who took that selfie with her...

The Phoenix Court Blog 1: Sean vs Peter

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 2, 2018, 12:28 PM
Hello all and welcome to a new blog series that will look at online drama within fandom culture where you as the viewer will pose as the jury and decide if the accused is guilty or innocent. This blog will focus on drama in professional situations and not target any users on deviantart as it's meant to be sort of fun. Some blogs will be very silly and some will be serious. So here is case 1: Sean vs Peter

The Accused: Sean Schemmel

The Victim: Peter Kelamis

The Case: Back in March there was a flame war going on between Pete Kelamis(the canadian goku) and some other guy who's name has not ever been revealed but everyone seems to think is Sean Schemmel(US Goku). Peter Kelamis was supposed to attend the con but in early march, announced that he would not be attending due to "another actor being directly involved in his removal." Many speculated the perpetrator to be none other than Sean Schemmel but it has never been publicly stated that he in fact, did it.

My Thoughts: Now here's what I have to say about Sean. I liked him. He had a smarmy and witty personality and was pretty friendly. We got along fairly well and I really don't have anything negative to say about the guy. I did get an anxious vibe out of him though, and being someone with anxiety myself, I can fully understand that big crowds and having to sit in the same place doing the same thing over and over again might make someone a bit anxious...no...really anxious. I honestly could not do it myself because I know for a fact that I'd eventually snap.

But what about this flame war? Who really did it? Who is innocent and who is guilty?

Evidence Against Sean: In the letter, Kelamis states that it was another actor that was directly responsible for this. We all know it wasn't Chris Sabat as he's usually the guy who invites the canadian actors to such events, no, Chris wouldn't hurt a fly. The only other guy as influential as him is Schemmel. Both Sean and Peter eventually attended KamehaCon but were on separate floors and had no panels together. Sean was in the same room as Ryo Horikawa who's a sweetheart but gets anxious in big crowds(completely understandable). Why would Schemmel be placed in a separate area of the con? Further evidence to Sean stems from past episodes of such behavior such as refusing to acknowledge MasakoX as another Goku, reluctantly doing a panel with Japanese Goku Masako Nozawa, and reacting sharply to any form of criticism on social media. Strong evidence against Schemmel stems from a tweet by Kelamis three years ago stating that "Another Goku" blocked him. Finally, there has been classified evidence from the community that CarthuDojo on youtube says "definitively points to Sean being the culprit."

Evidence against Peter: On social media things happen. Sometimes people are just out to start shit for attention purposes. This is not the first time Kelamis has started a twitter war with someone. Three years ago, Kelamis publicly started a fight with Schemmel with no evidence of anything from Sean's side. Each time these two have gone toe to toe, Kelamis has been the boy who cried wolf with Sean remaining silent and refusing to get involved. Kelamis tends to be highly opinionated and reactive. If he really is being harassed by Schemmel, he's feeding the troll when posting such content on social media. Scheme never confessed to doing it nor has Kelamis come fourth of who actually is the culprit. Some say Kelamis is just starting this for attention and publicity. With his whistle blowing tendencies, Kelamis sets himself up for skepticism.

The verdict: We really do not know who did it. We many never know until someone says the truth publicly. Where this drama came from is a mystery but one thing is for sure, both sides are flawed and both men have some pride to swallow. I've met both Peter and Sean and they are both sweet boys but obviously something is not right. I will not take sides here as I'm on good terms with both men and they both seem to have a fairly strong friendship since this drama faded but I will still be monitoring their behavior quite closely on social media.

You decide: Who do you think is the culprit? Do you think Schemmel was directly responsible for Kelamis's removal from the con roster? Do you think Kelamis did this for attention? Do you think the perpetrator is someone other than Schemmel? Take the poll now. Thank you for reading, this meeting is adjured.

I've Been Featured on the HotTopic Tumblr Page

Journal Entry: Mon May 28, 2018, 5:46 AM
I'm a regular at my local Hot Topic and have been coming there for years but I never expected them to feature me on their Tumblr. A while back right after Trump got elected, I posted a resistance outcry on my Tumblr that was meant to be a post for my friends who were distraught by the election results. I never thought the thing would go viral but now it has around 25,000 likes and it's still growing. Hot Topic featured the post on their homepage today and I have to say that it means a lot to me that the compony cares that much about minority groups. So not a bad start to the morning.

KamehaCon Story 1: Vegeta

Journal Entry: Thu May 10, 2018, 8:47 PM
I got up at around 6:00 to get into cosplay and drive to Dallas as early as I can because I want to get to the con as early as possible to avoid as much of the insane lines as I could. I came prepared though for Chris Sabat's booth and brought my Japanese flashcards with me in order to practice for the final because I knew his line would be insane no matter what. I had to memorize 90 phrases in a week and my current amount of points in that class at the time of the con was 680 out of 1000. I needed a 120/150 or more to stay in the B range and I did not want any more C's on my report card. I had the cards in my bag and got to Dallas at around 8:00 and met up with my friend Rebecca. We stopped at Brian's booth first(Over 9000! Vegeta) and Rebecca said hello to Pete(Canadian Goku) and we decided to brave the 3 hour wait to see Chris. I came prepared for this and pulled out my study cards. The line barely moved to the point where all of us just sat down on the floor trying to occupy ourselves. Every 30 minutes, Ryo Horikawa would walk by us and he did this a total of 4 times. We'd all wave and chant "RYO RYO RYO!" At one point while we were waiting for the darn line to move, Eric Vale came over to us and tried to have a decent conversation when he decided to make a run for it due to fangirl stalking, I really don't blame him XD.
so here is the more serious part of this story. You guys know I have panic disorder. I have it so bad that I have passed out before from oxygen deprivation. About two hours into my "study", I began to feel anxious for an unknown reason. I started hyperventilating and showing the symptoms of a panic attack. A staff member saw me and his friend came over and handed me a water bottle. He asks me if I'm lightheaded and makes sure I'm mentally all there before instructing me to drink. After I had my water, I relaxed and it dawned on me, I had not been hydrating enough and that was effecting my mental state. The people around me all tried to help me relax and that was when I realized how kind and amazing the DBZ fandom is. I've never felt like people were looking out for me at a con until KamehaCon. There was one man we all called casual Vegeta who offered to help me with my flash cards. When I finally did make it to the end of the rabbit hole that was the Chris Sabat line, I was still visibly shaken up but feeling better. I have to say that I have a lot of respect for people that read their audience. I don't really like doing much interaction with people after I've had a panic attack because when I'm in that vulnerable state, I feel very uneasy and nervous. I was not expecting something like this to happen so I was in no way prepared to deal with meeting Chris Sabat after just calming down from a panic attack. I was still visibly shaking and to be honest, knowing I would be meeting friggin Vegeta in a few minutes was not helpful. The girl behind me literally had to push me forward, that's how nervous I was. I will say this, I've never been this anxious when meeting anyone. Chris initially tried initiating the conversation but took one look at me and decided to wait for me to say something because like I said, I was visibly anxious. I honestly could not say anything. I handed Chris my print for a signature and finally said hello after like a minute of nothing. I turned my back for a minute and from behind me I hear "MY BULMAAAAAAA!" in Vegeta's voice(I was cosplaying Bulma). I turned back around and started cracking up at that. I relaxed a little and handed Chris my phone for the selfie. Chris took my phone and put his arm on me(I was blushing like crazy). Chris then saw my lock screen image of my dog and comments on what a little floof she is and I'm like "Squeeeeee, Vegeta wants my doggo." I thanked Chris for the signature and the selfie and turned to leave when he pulled me back over and hugged me ^-^. I hugged back and then tried to turn and leave a second time when he asked me several more things about my dog(she is irresistibly cute) and then we said our goodbyes and I left to go meet back up with Rebecca.
So that was me meeting Chris Sabat. Yes I was nervous but he was very respectful about it and probably one of the sweetest people I've met. The whole situation with the way everyone responded to my panic attack made me realize what a wonderful fandom the DBZ fandom is. I never felt this safe around any other group of people and I now consider the DBZ fandom to be like a family to me. KamehaCon felt like being in a small town where everyone knew each other. I have more stories from the convention to share but I thought I'd start with this one because wow, that interaction with Chris and the rest of those people in that area made me realize how many good people exist in the DBZ fandom.

Is Santa Monica Overhyped?

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 13, 2018, 5:53 AM
I have heard the stories of people finding dragonites and T-tars on the pier and for a while, I thought those stories were accurate. I found out during an evening outing to the pier after last years anime expo that the spawns of santa monica are not all that different from any other beach town I've been to. LA itself is not that great for spawns. I've caught way better pokemon in Chicago than downtown LA. Sure there was the occasional evolved spawn but nothing crazy. While the spawns are much better than rural places, they still are relatively tame compared to what I've seen in other places. The craziest spawn I ever encountered was a dragonite in rural wisconsin. Let that sink in. I flew to LA for AX and did several outings to the pier to look for a pokemon I would end up finding in the middle of no where. I have seen typhlosion and rhydon on the secluded island of sanibel in west florida. I recenlty caught a wild charizard right outside my home which is near a sports bar. Yes people have caught dragonites on the pier but it's still unlikely. You are more likely to run into wild dragonites in more secluded areas than large cities and they spawn more at night. I caught Mew in a matter of days through intensive gameplay and farming as many magikarp candies as I could through walking, raiding and knowing where they spawn. No you don't have to be a californian to complete the pokedex. There was a time when you had to be an urban player but Niantic has since begun changes to that and things are getting much better for those who don't live in cities. Yes when the game first began, there was an overwhelming bias to Chicagoans, Californians and New Yorkers but since data research and quests have entered the mix, the level of gameplay has become much more even. What has the game been like for you since these new changes have been implemented?

The Catch of the Day

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 10, 2018, 9:26 PM
So my friend and I are eating at a sports bar and she pulls up Pokemon Go and screams "Charizard!". I thought she was kidding but I go to my account and yeah, a charizard appears right outside the restaurant. I cannot tell you how satisfying that felt. After a Latios ran from me this evening, seeing a charizard out of F-Ing no where made it all better. What's the best thing you have caught so far?

Also, I will be catching Mew this weekend. How close are you to your Mew?

Stop Spoofing in Pokemon Go

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 3, 2018, 5:48 PM
Spoofers...what ya gonna do?

Well I propose an idea. Any accounts that have been caught using third party apps to obtain pokemon and flagged by niantic should not have permission to catch mew. in the games, mew only appears to trainers with pure hearts. this could be translated into the concept of spoofing. a trainer who has been flagged is not pure of heart and thus, should not catch mew. niantic could still allow you to complete the quest tasks but when it comes time to catch mew, it either could run away or turn into a ditto once caught. I feel like this could be the perfect opportunity to discourage spoofing in pokemon go. Spoofers ruin the game for me. Sure Mystic7 is out of touch with reality and does not seem to recognize his privilege in the game but at least I recognize mine. As a chicago native, I have access to a lot of good spawns and whenever I stay at my grandparents, I get a feel for how rural players feel when all they see is pidgeys. I have lots of opportunities to travel because I study abroad and I have family out in Los Angeles and Fort Meyers. I'll be visiting my family in Frankfurt Germany this may after KamehaCon which will give me the opportunity to catch Mr. Mime. Yes, I'm very lucky that I live in a city and that I travel. I understand why spoofing happens but there are other ways to solve privilege than cheating the game. I'm an advocate for rural players and I want them to have an experience that's worth it. That's why I've been promoting the idea of quests on my twitter. Looks like Niantic finally listened because myself and others have been wanting this for rural players. I'm scheduled for a research breakthrough on Thursday which means I'll have a chance to capture a legendary without a raid group...you know, the thing rural players have been begging for. Pokemon Go is getting more and more fair with each new update. Please don't spoof, instead, be an advocate for change whether you are an urban or rural player.

For Voltron Fans

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 2, 2018, 5:55 PM
Hey guys what is up?

Do you have a discord? Love Voltron?

Recently we started a discord server for Voltron fans that is a companion to LegendaryVoltron, the dA fan club which I'm currently an admin of. It's mostly discussions and chats that help to bring fans together. We also answer any questions on discord people may have about both the discord server and the dA group. If you are interested in joining the server, there's a link to it on the LegendaryVoltron group homepage.

Also, if you want to friend me on discord, you can note me and I'll send you my server name. I'm thinking about doing Allura for AX 2019 since you all voted for me to do her ^-^. Have a good one and I'll answer notes when I can, I'm extremely busy with work at this point in time so it's hard for me to answer and respond to everything. I'll try to have all notes answered by the end of the weekend.

For Pokemon Go players, if you still play and have an amino, you can follow my blog there TheValorFactor for tips, tricks, catches and pokemon go news.

How To Get Magikarp

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 1, 2018, 6:13 AM
With the release of quests, Pokemon go has now made legendaries accessible to rural players if they complete weekly tasks. Complete these and you have a legendary encounter where you can use your ultra balls, the legendaries can run away from you, and you don't need to be in a city to win. Still, while these tasks are not that hard to complete, and finding a ditto should not be that hard for rural players, there is one task in the Mew quest that does cater to states of privilege. You have to evolve a magikarp which takes about 400 candies to do. I've done it before and so have plenty of other people but even in an urban area like Chicago, it takes a while. What can you do about it?

1. Make magikarp your buddy
2. always raid a magikarp raid
3. always pineab a magikarp
4. always hatch 2k eggs first
5. look around by lakes, rivers and oceans

I see magikarp all the time on lake Michigan and up in Door County where my grandparents house is, if you go to the Ephraim harbor, there's hordes of magikarp. If you are a midwest player and you live by lake Michigan, that is the best place to find magikarp. Players in the south, Sanibel Island in Florida is a very secluded and quiet place that isn't crawling with tourists that hosts a variety of spawns. If you ride a bike down the path to Captiva, right on the beach are tons of magikarp and there's even a dratini that likes to spawn by the Captiva island welcome sign. Also, states like Louisiana and Alabama have fairly decent spawn rates. I'm sure any of the great lakes have lots of magikarp. Those of you in Utah, try Salt Lake City.

I don't have a lot of candies right now at the moment and I'm currently in a desert but I'll be heading back to Chicago in may and I'll be visiting my grandparents up in Door County so by the mid to end of the summer, I should have Mew. Hope this helps if you are trying to find magikarp. Remember, they spawn by lakes, rivers and oceans.

Mew In Pokemon Go

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 26, 2018, 9:22 AM
Mew is coming to Pokemon Go and anyone can catch one, but it's not that easy. While most legendary catch successes rely on city to rural ratios, Mew is different.

Ever play dragon ball dokkan battle? if not, here's how it works. players complete daily tasks and quests to earn in game rewards such as dragon stones for character summons. Occasionally, a player will receive what is called a god dragon stone which can be used in the trade shop to summon a special character. Everyone has an equal chance to each such rewards but getting there takes tedious effort and task completion to do so.

In Pokemon Go, it's the same thing. Everyone has a chance to earn Mew but depending on how many quests you complete(which are possible for all players), determines when you will have your chance to encounter Mew. In the original games, to find mew, one must first acquire pieces of a map to the old sea which pinpoints the location of faraway island, Mew's home. Once all pieces of the map are earned, players can go to faraway island and capture Mew.

The in game tasks are doable but tedious and will require lots of patience to complete. Once all the tasks have been completed, you will have a chance to capture Mew just as it is in the games. Mew is not restricted to city players like most legendaries, but available for grabs by anyone who is willing to put in the work to acquire one. Are you ready to capture the Zeno of the pokemon world?

Most Stupid Reason To Block Someone

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 17, 2018, 10:35 AM
Ok I am not kidding when I say this. I swear on all that is good in the world that this legit actually happened. I have encountered some really egotistical people in my life but my god this person might take the cake...and that's saying a lot.

Just so you know this was a long time ago so it's not something that bothers me, it's just something I laugh about because it is friggin hilarious. I actually got blocked by a lady for not answering her text messages fast enough for her taste...no I'm not kidding. I was blocked by some chick all because I didn't text message her enough to feed her ego. I'm not going to say the username because I respect that she sent me an honest letter for why she blocked me and I do really appreciate honesty, it's just that her reason was so stupid. I sometimes get frustrated when a text doesn't come in quick enough but I don't get angry at the person or block them over it because they may have a reason like they are busy in that moment or they may be going through something and may not want to be bugged. I admit that I have a habit of not checking my texts on my phone for long periods of time but I'm not being lazy, I have a ton of other shit in my life I have to worry about.

So I'm not salty that she blocked me or over her stupid reason for doing it, I could care less, I don't want to be friends with ego maniacs anyways. I just find the situation to be hilarious because of how petty it was. I've blocked people for getting on my nerves, bugging me when I've politely asked them to go away, harassment, being a homophobic ass...you know, legitimate things. I really don't care if some lady wants to avoid me because I don't feed her ego, I'm just going to sit back and laugh at the story that followed because stupidity can be absolutely hilarious.

What is the most ridiculous reason you've been blocked by someone?

Lugia's Back

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 15, 2018, 11:16 AM
Guess who's back?

Lugia is returning to Pokemon Go for the rest of march and April giving players another chance to catch the legendary loch ness monster. I already have a lugia but catching more of them will help me max out my favorite battling pokemon. I'm going back into chicago for some Lugia raids on saturday with my friend Helen and will be farming Lugia because why the hell not? I've had a lot of luck catching the legendary bird trio with first throws and my first Lugia was caught at Go Fest so the catch rate wasn't fair but I want to see just how hard this guy is to catch without a catch rate boost. Rayquaza was notoriously difficult to catch and it took me a bunch of tries to snag one but I did it when we all took a trip to the Art Institute last Saturday. I'm exited to catch some Lugia this weekend before flying back out to Dallas and getting back into the busiest month of the academic year. Because of this, I won't be on dA that much until report cards are out because I need to get several grades up to par and April is the best month to do it. For now, time to catch some lugia this weekend..

Catching a Rayquaza

Journal Entry: Fri Mar 9, 2018, 10:16 AM
It's spring break and I'm going to Chicago which isn't ideal but I'm going to meet up with the squad there and farm rayquazas because I have not been able to get a large enough group in my current location which I won't tell you where I am XD but I'll be in Chicago for ten days, we are going rayquaza farming and hopefully I'll have enough candies to have one badass green bean wish granting dragon ^-^. Yes I'll be naming him Shenron, I kind of have to. Kind of like how everyone who catches a mewtwo names it Frieza ;). If you still play, what's the best thing you've caught so far?
