I asked earlier about people's original stories, comics, etc., because I want to find more to follow. Well nobody answered that particular asking, but below are some comics I've found on my own or was already following. And again, if you have a story, a comic, a novel, a bunch of OCs, let me know and I'll check it out. Can't promise I'll follow if it's not my cup of tea, but I'll give it a chance. Us independent subcreators gotta support each other! :w00t:

The following are not reviews in any organized sense; some of these I'm caught up, some I'm not; it's my impressions of them where I'm at. Links are to the beginnings.

An aside: I don't care for Webtoons or Tapatastic or whatever those things are; I prefer to read either here on DA or on comics' own websites, so that's what I linked to. Some of these do have a presence on those other places; if that's what you prefer, please just take a look around for the links; they'll be there.

A manga-style one about a very strange and mysterious desert city and some young people who battle evil black blood ghost snakes. The thing that has me hooked is wondering what is the true nature of the city and its inhabitants. The opening quote along with the structure of circles suggests something... I've read a fair amount but I'm not caught up.

Adventurers' Guild by GuildmasterPhill

All-original sprite comic in the style of an RPG game. Right now, it's in the first really serious bit, and the visuals of the current enemy are quite strikingly eerie. I'm caught up, and since it's by my brother, I know a fair amount of what's to come, and there are a lot of epic and funny adventures.

Stand Still Stay Silent by MinnaSundberg

This is a big popular one, and no wonder. The art is amazing, the worldbuilding fascinating and terrifying, and the characters capture one's emotional investment right away. Scandinavians go on missions into post-pandemic monster ruins left by present-day civilization. My only two criticisms are that the dialogue is sometimes a little unnaturally bantery, and that it's not quite disturbing enough in effect considering the premise. I'm caught up generally, but I like to let updates build up a bit before reading through 'em.

A very unique, mind-twisting one about an island off California ruled by a telepathic eccentric, up-ended by the arrival/infiltration?/entrapment? of a mysterious woman. Gorgeous environments and characters that keep you guessing. I keep caught up.

The Safekeepers by AHcomicmagic

I've not read very far yet; the prologue is extremely fascinating, with a prophetic missionary priest in 18th century China asking some kind of Shaolin monks or something to protect a scroll from demons. The main part hasn't picked up yet where I'm at, but we'll see.

This one is not readable online, it's one of those new independent crowdfunded comic books! A college student faces the death of her loving stepfather--which is written very effectively to evoke sympathy--and ends up through a portal to a magical world. The whole thing feels so magical, particularly somehow, like water magic. I've read issue one and look forward to more!

UPDATE: I removed one originally-recommended comic, Iris, because upon looking into the background material, it looks like it will make use of the Evil Oppressive "Crystal Dragon Jesus" Church cliche and the Humans Oppressing People with Special Powers cliche, both of which I hate, so I'm not following it anymore. Your mileage may vary.

So that's what I've been looking at lately. And here's what I've been working on lately:

Project List

Clockwork Dancer by Jon Del Arroz
I've been concentrating on this since the beginning of July, hoped to finish it during July, but other things came up. Still, I'm pluggin away at it. I'm on page 18 out of 22! Won't be long now!

Bovodar and the Bears by Jack Mikkelson
I'm working on a new cover illustration for the novel on which this graphic novel is based. It's an ambitious painting!

The Vampire's Saint by Corinna Turner
This is on the schedule after I've finished a few things!

Paper Doll Veronika
So this is finally underway! Four chapters have been posted on the site: www.paperdollveronika.com/
I hope you've been enjoying it. I haven't gotten much feedback so if you have read it, I'd appreciate something, even if it's just, "I've read it" or even, "It stinks!"

Beckyless
No new progress.

Mary's Mazes
No new progress.

And I mentioned last journal that I hadn't been able to talk about what had been taking up most of my time in the months of April and May. Well that was this project: St. Flavia Domitilla coloring page by FireFiriel

I also still have to do most of the prize sketches for my animal guessing game, (An aside to the winners: if you asked for something simple, you'll be first in line. If you asked for a seven-character group picture, I'm afraid you're last in line. ^^; ) and I have a nother project I can't talk about yet that I'm wrapping up as we speak. :3

Fanworks (all DC)

Even though I'm done with DC insofar as I abjure anything and everything they put out after the Wonder Woman movie, I still value what came before and I'll still make my own stuff with these characters, honoring what they originally were while spitting on what they are degenerated into now.

Batman: Decadence
Still on the back burner, but I would like to write the next two scripts this Winter, so that eightcrows can write the script that comes after, or at least get underway, in the Spring, because she needs to do it before next Summer because she's going away then because she's getting married! That's right she just got engaged to GamerintheZone!
