Description
Yesterday, September 11, is considered Harley Quinn's birthday, as it's the date on which the first episode with her was first aired.
Now, first of all, I want to be very clear I mean no disrespect or insensitivity to those who were killed in the attacks in 2001. It is not my intention to be frivolous in the least, but I understand if some people find the connection of such a massacre with thoughts about fictional characters to be so. So if anyone thinks I should mark this Mature under Ideologically Sensitive, I will willingly do so.
That said, I have been thinking a lot about this connection symbolically. I think America presently is a lot like Harley Quinn. She's got passion, chutzpah, and a kind of innocence, but she's infatuated with a thing(s) of death and depravity, to her own hurt and degradation. In Decadence, Harlene will not fall into her role and relationship simply out of fascination, but also in reaction to certain terrible things. But she could have fought back righteously, not shedding innocent blood as well.
In the case of the analogy, I'm not just talking about unjust tactics in a war which I'm not sure is just or not, though there are definitely those. I'm more talking about the self-destructions: perversions and thought-policing and child-slaughter, and declaring that the things we shouldn't even be doing to our enemies may be done to our own people by their leaders. And the folks that like those things aren't too passionate about fighting back righteously, either. And it's funny; some people from other parts of the world particularly decry America for not being perverse and thought-policing and child-slaughtering enough. The inmates of Arkham screech in their madness that she should be more like her boyfriend.
But beyond all that, there's an innocent heart somewhere, mourning and hoping.

It really seems like a personal piece, one which seems to express some interesting things to think about.
