Important: This is a personal O.C. not created for any outside source or fandom.
This is the Bio for the main character for an original story of mine called, “The Bullet Journal” This bio follows the jurisdiction of the timeline in America from the 1910's into the 30's.
First name: Walela (Wha-lay-la") Cherokee meaning hummingbird.
Last name: Maher (Marr)
She goes by the nick name Hummer.
Her syndicate alias is Hide (He-day)
January 12, 1900
Born in a town that is now considered on the border of Mexico and Texas.
English and Spanish
Her mother was Native American and father Irish
Walela is a rather curvy women, far from the aspired boy body look of the time.
She has fair muscle mass, not enough to be considered very strong, but has a very good grip. She is not unnaturally flexible, but is more capable than most. Her body did not noticeably develop in a feminine sense until she was in her very late teens to early twenty’s, although she looked older than her age during childhood. As a child she looked very androgynous, and was always rather stalky with broader shoulders and a larger forehead, until she grew into them as an adult. It also didn’t help that her voice is not in the least high pitched.
Walela has a natural beauty mark in the bottom outer corner of her right eye.
Light cream in color from her father, with strong pink undertones from her mother as well as freckles dusted across her cheeks.
Straight brown hair with a red tint which is prone to becoming wavy.
Has a Native American style hummingbird with floral designs, tattooed at the age of 16 on the front of her left hip in honor of her mother.
Wears a thick black leather band as a choker that has the word, "Hide" embroidered on the inside.
Depression, Self-Loathing, Anxiety, Stress
(Spoilers this is in reference to her main story)
Later in life while in her late twenties her beauty mark was cut off her face and she fell out of a four-story high window, resulting in scars all over her body.
She also has a small branded C on her inner thigh.
Although her husband himself was raised catholic, Walela remained an agnostic atheist. She doesn’t understand the ideas of believing or worshipping a god although she does follow the philosophy, "I won’t let my death determined how I live my life."
Very independent, although this can be to her own detriment.
Determined, Walela usually follows through with most of what she plans. She is a rather fair person keeping her promises, this can be good or bad depending on the situation. Walela is able to seemingly adapt to most social situations even if she is not comfortable in them. She often has good judgment, thinking things through from multiple perspectives, she is very resourceful and almost always has a backup plan.
While Walela herself in her heart and mind is a very emotional person, this is rarely ever shown. She takes things very personally, being aware of this she can tend to be rather neglectful and distant especially towards those she loves.
For the exception of extremely rare occasions when she is unable to control her reactions and outbursts which basically serve as mental breakdowns. These rare responses of hers have always tended to be damaging towards her relationships.
While being as head on as she likes to be in regards to her problems, the biggest issues in her life are drastically worsened and ironically caused by her running away from them.
Uncertain of her emotions, Walela doesn't really know how to properly express herself not handling her feelings very well. She will freeze when put under too much fear or stress or just completely shut down as her only defense mechanism, this of which is a more recent reaction caused from past trauma.
Very private, she has a lot to hide and put behind her as she doesn’t accept many aspects of who she was, and what she's done.
Even though she is described by others to be quite selfless she is in fact the opposite in her own opinion, always having some sort of motive in mind.
*Likes & Strengths*
Wearing pants in the privacy of her own home, she’s not crazy about skirts.
Affectionate physical contact even though it's not something she is very used to.
Swimming, she has a certain love for water it being the most calming environment for her.
Nature, she loves animals and being outdoors.
She often makes bullet journals documenting almost everything she feels as a coping mechanism.
Walela has natural talents for literature, Language, Negotiation, Persuasion, and is very organized.
*Dislikes, Fears & Weaknesses*
Being around other women, she was never really around many other girls growing up. Surrounded and influenced mostly by men, she feels women for the most part, are overly dramatic, annoying, and in some cases self-destructive, with few exceptions for a handful of women in her life.
Even though she grew up around guns, she does not have much of a liking towards them as she has no problem pulling the trigger herself. Nonetheless when the role is reversed and herself or a loved one is in the line of fire, she panics.
Getting Married, she has never been keen on the idea, for at the time she would be giving up what little rights she has as a woman, (She can’t even vote yet unlike most other women considering she is native American.)
Biological Father, name not mentioned, is deceased (Explained in backstory)
Biological Mother, name not mentioned, (Status unknown)
Siblings, has an older half-brother by 12 years, name not mentioned as they do not talk and have no relationship.
Foster Father: Samoan man named Akeakamai ("A-kay-ah-ka-my" nicknamed "Spider" who took custody of Walela at the age of ten.
Children: She will have a son named Vincent and maybe a daughter? (I'm still debating this though.)
Will become the step mother to a young man named Angelo.
Bisexual, although she spent most of her early years in lesbian relationships.
First relationship was with a woman named Mariah who was about eight years older than her at the time and is now deceased.
Was once engaged to a woman out of gang family affairs named Eleanora Co’Neal.
Had an affair with Alcee Co'Neal the older sister of Eleanora who she had actually met first, but was unable to have an open relationship with her due to Alcee’s previously arranged engagement overseas.
Current relationship is with an older man by twelve years named Angelo Perish who she does end up marrying.
Warning and story explanation,
The main story this character is written for is not about what will be described in the back story, although it does hold major spoilers and explanations for the story I am currently writing, so read at your own risk. Also, mature content such as suicide and murder will be discussed. I am open to all constructive criticism and recommendations for anything to change and get rid of in her backstory.
Birthplace: Years 1-6,
Walela was born to an older native woman and a younger Irish man near the southern border of Texas before it was apart of America.
Parent's & Caretaker: Years 7-10
At the age of seven her father was killed in a natural disaster incident when he took a trip far up north to Chicago visiting family. Three years later her mother became very ill during an outbreak of Typhus in their home town. Immediately people evacuated the area, fearing and expecting the worst her mother sent out a letter to a dear old friend name Akeakamai ("A-kay-ah-ka-my") a Samoan man who she desperately asked to take Walela away with him back to California so she would be safe.
Seeing as Akeakamai had no family since his young daughter of the same age had long before since died as she had preexisting health issues and his wife passed during labor many years before, he carried through his friend’s request. All Walela was sure of at the time was she had been taken away by a stranger from her home, from her mother's death bed, taking nothing with her in fear of contamination.
A New Home: Years 10-11,
Remarkably, Akeakamai and Walela became incredibly close sharing an immediate bond of love, he became an overly protective father to her. He isolated her at home never leaving her unattended if he could help it. His line of work did not treat the ones he loved kindly, seeing as he worked in organized crime. Soon Akeakamai found it safer that Walela appeared in public as male. Teaching her English, he noticed she had a gift for language and anything having to do with literature, driven by her love of it he worked to educate her using the resources from the local library.
Hard Times: Years 11-12,
After a year of livings together Akeakamai was rendered unable to physically work due to the breaking of bones, which in the turn of events earned him the alias "Spider." Stricken by hard times Walela worked in physical labor to support themselves. During their most desperate time of need, aid was given through the local Syndicate Spider was a part of. A major change happened in the community practically overnight, the leadership was suddenly handed over to a man called Jay. This man Jay, ended the local gang wars. Resulting in several gangs becoming fellow units of the syndicate he was creating, as well as bringing financial stability for those who worked for him. Thus, Jay became the founder of a private organization called, "The Society," but as things were changing so fast there were plenty of gangs that stood against Jay, creating other conflicts which to him, he simply saw as more employment opportunities.
Socializing: Years 12-13,
When work picked up for Spider his specialty being spying, they began to travel between Organ and California. As result Walela became best friends with a boy one year older than her named Saint who happened to be the eldest heir to a family whose wealth was built upon automotive industry and transportation. Walela often got to attend Saints private tutor lessons with him.
Eventually Walela gained new roommates in California, three men who worked with Spider. Walela now being at an age she can actually help somewhat sufficiently, she started working for The Syndicate in the trading charters as it was safer civilian labor. To Spiders distaste when he was gone, Jay became uncomfortably close to Walela recognizing her talents of literature and persuasion. Wanting her to be further educated he had her anonymously publish her own articles that spoke of collective secret information regarding private happenings in the society under his requests and instruction. This anonymous author assumed to be male was nickname by the society, ‘Hide’ for literal reasons.
First Love: Years 14-15,
At the age of 14 Walela met a grown woman called Mariah, a mole, or spy who worked with Spider. Their relationship concerned Spider seeing as they immediately became romantically interested in one another. Eventually Walela and Mariah's relationship matured into that of an intimate and romantic one. Soon enough with Mariah’s encouragement Walela became more involved with the society, becoming even closer to Jay. By 15 Walela had made a name for herself. "Hide," a man intimately involved in the society’s politics successfully designing laws, processes, and various systems for the society. Walela creating a life for herself privately with Mariah, the two now living together. Spider grew distant from Walela, disappointed in the reputation and character she had created along with her involvement in the society, now holding a grudge against both Mariah and Jay.
Burning Low: Year 16,
Turning 16 the new year having just turned over, work had gotten busy for everyone. Going about her assignments normally one-night Mariah hadn't returned home as planned.
Walela’s concern immediately grew, looking for her ignoring the words from Spider saying she had moved on and left her, these words were said in honesty.
Three months had passed and Walelas search ended as she had found what was left of Mariah’s body dumped in a shallow grave in the deserted outskirts of old gang war territory.
To say Walela was devastated was an understatement, and rather than driven by anger carried upon the will of a grudge, she fell into a chronic depression driving self-destruction. She was sympathized with by Spider who was unknowing of how to help.
Spider wanting to encourage a healthy environment for Walela had them moved to southern California. Jay seeing as two of his now most appreciated "men" were moving he saw a business opportunity to be implemented, so he sent them his orders along with his support and regards in response to Hide’s tragic situation.
Jays orders detailed for Spider and Hide to attend an event at the Co'Neal estate, a powerful Italian gang family he wanted to make ties with. They were to at this event make their first attempt to reach out. It was at the birthday celebration of the youngest sister Maddalena Co'Neal. It was with Alanso Co'Neal the widowed head of the family and father of the three sisters they needed to call council with.
During this time Spider and Walelas relationship was nowhere near healed, in truth Spider was merely concerned for his daughter the entire time. Nonetheless Spider was impressed by her, but worried about her involvement with the society as any responsible caretaker would. Hide and Spider, or more so Spider dragging Hide to the social for council with Co'Neal, but the event didn't go quite as planned.
Hiding from meetings:
Walela having had enough at this point in her life, she felt as if she had nothing. Not only suffering from chronic depression, but being in the mix of hormonal confusion, all the while in conflict with their only vital caring figure. To say the least they wanted to die, and where determined to act upon this notion.
Arriving at the party, Hide was literally pushed into a conversation with an unknown woman by Spider. Hide had not only managed to catch the interest of this girl, but also her interest and concern, he was a natural charmer. Finally, he left the stranger, unable to stay in the presence of people.
Hide walked into the nearby forest out lining the Co'Neal property with a gun in hand. They contemplated for a long time, finally laying down in a good spot where they placed the gun in their mouth, when suddenly they heard a scream?
Walela tried to ignore it at first, but to their dismay didn't feel like dying uncomfortably. Irritated and completely annoyed, Hide ran over to the source of the noise being projected from a young woman caught up in the dangerous grasp of a large man. Hide seeing as the stranger’s intention was only to harm and kill her as he held a gun, Hide shot the mystery man dead not caring as it was simply a jester to silence the disrupt full commotion. This act of Hide’s was nothing special, but to the girl he saved, felt the need to repay him. Hide at least felt it necessary to escort the girl home safely, aimlessly, uncaring, and un awhere they had arrived back at the Co'Neal estate lead by the girl, who revealed to be Eleanora Co'Neal, the middle daughter. By the time they arrived it had been several hours after the party had ended.
The Co'Neal sisters and their Father,
Eleanora was returned home safely by a stranger to her worried family, confessing she had intended to take some of the family's wealth and run away with her alleged boyfriend, who was now shot dead in the forest. When Eleanora and Maddalena were sent away for the night by their older sister Alcee.
Finally, Alanso emerged from his office with Spider. Hide explained most of what had happened, but remained silent when aggressively questioned by Spider about why he was out there in the first place. Alanso in turn disagreed with Spider and instead praised Hide for saving his daughters life. After formally introducing Alcee he invited the two to stay agreeing to council with Jay. Alanso Co'Neal having taken a liking to Hide eventually asked him to stay at their estate awhile to hopefully teach his daughters a thing or two about the real world in which he took the job, this gave Hide a new sense of purpose.
Getting to know you: Years 17-18,
Hide studied under Alanso learning about business furthering his skills while spending much time with the sisters. Hide consoled in Alcee who turned out to be an active feminist or rather a complete suffragette while Eleanora took a liking to him and becoming like a brother to young Madelene.
Eventually they did learn of Hides true biological status ever awkwardly, Alcee having walked in on Hide changing, but Alanso who was a progressive man insisted no problem of it, and his daughters followed his example taking his opinion as their own.
Rewarded Love: Year 19,
Alcee later traveled overseas to live and be married, Hide still writing to her. Eleanora determined to win Hides affection, sent love letters his way earning herself few somewhat affectionate notes in return. Alanso's relationship with Hide turning to that of a father son love he very suddenly confessed, he had no heir stating he would like Hide to claim that position one day. Hide simply responded it would be an amazing position for him to have earned very flattered that he would have even considered himself.
Alanso calling Eleanora to their meeting to consult her then calling Hide his son, presented him with one of their family rings, a crest symbolizing their authority, importance, and authenticity offering Eleanora to be his bride. They were to be married later that year, Hide was now 19 looking back on his life. He was controlling most of Alanso’s business affairs with optimal ability, still writing to Alcee who was happy for him.
Eleanora took Madeline up north for a sister’s trip for her birthday, while Alanso and Hide were left alone at the estate. Hide was having a very serious conversation with Alanso in his office who told him there was another side of the Co'Neal family over in the East, and when questioned who it was controlled by, he said nothing. Alanso handed Hide a case of documents as he took his ring off his finger placing it in the palm of his successors hand. Hide was confused by everything that Alanso was doing he looked as if he was going to cry defeated, all the while stating he loved his daughters, confessing that he would be dying very soon. Hide was bombarding Alanso with questions, not understanding what was happening. Tucking the case under Hides coat Alanso forced Hide into his office closet, the door was sturdy like that of a safe. He was instructed very seriously to stay put, apologizing for what Hide would have to witness. Alanso mumbling to himself, if only there was more time for him to leave, and that there would never be peace in the family as long as the two of them were alive. Oddly enough Alanso was not referring to Hide, but someone else further confusing them about everything that was happening. In the background noise you could faintly hear doors slamming throughout the house, everything happened so fast as unknown men barged through the office door shooting Alanso dead.
Their wedding was postponed and Hide was blamed by Eleanora for Alanso’s death, Eleanora publicly published stories under Hides name accusing them of anything from embezzlement to affairs. Alcee who was away could only send her sympathetic letters expressing a sad explanation for her sister’s behavior stating she was truly just a deceitful brat. Hides reputation was being damaged politically, publicly, and privately being backed into a corner without mercy, he didn't want the position of power promised by the Co'Neal name anymore.
Hide needed to die, and Walela to disappear. Contacting a group of mercenaries, they requested to be supplied with the body of a young women whose death was by strangulation, once supplied with the body they worked to give it their own resemblance and hung the corpse by their neck in Hides office with a suicide note. Seeing as they couldn't exactly take their own possessions with them, they instead took the old belonging of their deceased lover Mariah instead, and for good measure and pure sentimental value ripped out the leather embroidered tag from one of their jackets with Hide embroidered on it, fashioning a choker for herself.
Contacting Saint her good childhood friend she informed them they were moving, unaware of her reputation or situation they gladly granted them the deed to a property over in the East coast that no one in his family was using. Why would she move so far? They wanted somewhere completely different to start over and instead going to Illinois where their father was from as to avoid being found, they went to New York on their motorcycle the farthest they could travel without crossing water, at this point Walela is 20.
