From the veranda of the Justice Building, I take one last look over the heads of the crowd at my little village in District Four. It’s something I do every year just after ascending the stairs to the platform - a last, fortifying ritual before we’re whisked away to the Capitol for another year of horror. Johanna Mason is one of my absolute favourite characters in the entire series. Going in to Catching Fire, I was really excited to see her on-screen (even if her long hair bothered me). Turns out, it wasn’t the long hair that would be an issue (I barely noticed).
I have zero problems with Jena Malone’s casting. I was extremely excited about it, really. She portrayed a good Johanna – just not the one she should have, even though it was not her fault, and probably that of the director’s.
