Literature Text

It is night.

The forest stretches in front of him into a vast abyss of uncultivated nightmare, pitch black and darker than the skeletal branches of the trees around him. There's a blanket of fog that seems to cling to the trees, beckoning and warning in the same breath. Ydeu walks through the fog without any apprehension, and though the path winds further into a forest and sea of fog to which there is no end, he does not falter. Whatever is hiding in this fog is ahead and he will reach it sooner or later. Slowly lights blink into existence, until at last the entire forest is illuminated by small flickering lights suspended in the thick darkness.

Someone's watching from among the branches. He feels a name on the tip of his tongue, somewhere his memory cannot reach, a familiarity that would bother him if the sudden crunch of forest debris underfoot doesn't snap his attention away. A slack breeze pushes though the forest carrying whispers and murmurs and the last, muted notes of a scream. It's not quite the sound of waves against the shore, or of wind winding through broken columns, but it's not unfamiliar either. There's something about the tree though, some slant in their shadow that makes Ydeu look up.

And when he does the wind picks up and he feels leaves being blown around his legs, but he does not look down for in that moment his eyes are locked to the sky. The moon and the stars spin and spin and spin until they are no longer pinpricks of light and instead a continuous stream of light going on and on in concentric circles. A path emerges. He doesn't know how or why, only that it emerges as if the branches are pulling away at this very moment, folding themselves away to make this path visible. Ydeu does not stop to think. He does not wonder. He follows the path that is made for he knows that it is his.

TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF

Beyond the branches and shadows lies a forest. Thick trunks arch into sturdy branches and a glimmer of fruit and a shine of leaves lie just beyond his reach.

TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF

There's a heavy presence at his back and just like with the stars, Ydeu is forced by some compulsion of will to look away.

TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF

"I am searching for my sword," he says simply.

As soon as the words leave his mouth they seem to fall away, unravveling from his mind like a thread off a spool. Slowly at first, just the words. And then quicker, faster, relentlessly, the thoughts and images and memories: of his sword, of its being stolen, of the need to recover it, of the form he once held, that he was incomplete now, that he must become as he once was-

All of it, gone. There's a moment as the thread coils around the trunk of a tree where Ydeu is cognizant of the fact that he has lost this memory and that it is being taken, one where the memory is both his still and already lost. But then the thread blossoms and it is gone and all Ydeu remembers is that the tree took something from him. To take. No, that's not right, it is his place to take. But now he has been taken from.

Ydeu lashes out and sinks teeth into hard grey bark, tastes wood and knowledge and emotion and laughter on his tongue. Gnashes through wood and grit and moss and lichen and the laughter is there again. He feels familiar rage well in his blood, not quite boiling but perhaps a simmer. He will take too. He will take and hurt and bludgeon and he will take as he has been taken from. There's a name on the tip of his tongue, half a curse, a name of a person he once knew that lived in a tangle of black branches. But that thought is gone as he turns his head and sees a low hanging fruit. Was it there before? He doesn't know and he doesn't care. He bites into it and relishes the feel of his teeth breaking skin and the crisp yield of its flesh between his teeth. A flash of white fills his mind and in that moment he knows everything and anything there is to know about celeste.

ydeu chooses chaos because what else did you expect

also i have no idea what celeste is beyond a name so ... ... i guess ydeu now has stalkerific knowledge of some poor person named celeste.
