Long time since my last entry, huh.
I'm not going to beat around the bush, my old project of publishing a glorious PDF version of BGP has not been quite accomplished, mostly due to diminished time and dedication on my end. In fact, is the one who truly got his hands dirty, scouring both the text itself and a whole corpus of metainformation so much needed for the purpose of typographic cleansing. All of the twenty chapters, despite their age-old luster as measured in fandom eras, needed to undergo a considerable work of micro-correction, designed to rid them of typos, mispunctuation and inconsistencies.
Sadly, as I already noted, the work was never fully completed. Every time we thought we were finished; every time we were eager to announce the release; every time we ran new, increasingly finer spell-checks. It was never over. New issues would show up, new errors pop up, new typos turn up. Eventually, although the project was never truly discontinued, progress became snail-paced and an actual release never came to pass.
That brings us to the current state of affairs. I can't stress this enough, lest Darkenetor chide me. The work I'm now releasing is not complete. It's not perfect. It's not the final word, nor is it the BGP PDF to end all BGP PDFs. We have a whole list of corrections that haven't even made it in the document yet. That being said, it is (I believe) the best version of Background Pony that you can currently get your hands on, digitally speaking, insofar as your evaluation metric is based on typographical soundness.
Behind the scenes, work on the document will still proceed at whatever pace. This is more of an uphill-rolling release than a Sisyphean enterprise. Were you to decide to use this version for a printing project (which I'd advise against, in its current state), be aware that better ones may come out in the future. Also, you should definitely contact Darkenetor if you seriously want to go through with it; he's usually eager to help when it comes to BGP and printing stuff — and believe me when I say you'll find his help invaluable.
Speaking of, I hear that the Ministry of Image guys are planning to print BGP by July, and Avonder may replicate his very successful endeavor as well, so you may want to keep your eyes open if you're interested in this kind of thing.
That's enough of an introduction, so let me cut to the chase. Here is the download link for the current version:
I hope you enjoy the fruit of our work, however lacking. It feels natural to dedicate it to , whose work has been inspiring many over the span of many years.
