CD case art - The Remains of Rock n Roll by FilKearney CD case art - The Remains of Rock n Roll by FilKearney
private commission for a cityscape.
Man this was a blast to do!
This is the facebook, trimmed art.  The CD dimensions are a bit taller ratio, but the composition was designed to accommodate the facebook ratios, so lots of "negative space" at the bottom, far more dense at the top.

I haven't done a similar cityscape since this commission for "the Drift" online.

How long did it take to do all those buildings?? I'm assuming you didn't paint each window individually?

It took... many hours.

All of the buildings have a portion of them that were done by hand window-by-window to establish the basic architecture, then a combination of custom brushes for the different buildings helped automate some of the process, and then returning to individual treatment of each building was sometimes needed

like, in some instances it was easier to have the window lights painted under the exterior architecture with holes in the building skin for the light of each room to show through for EVERY window, and then chaotically remove lit windows with a scattered randomizing brush between the light and skin layers.
Top layer: skin of the building
upper layer: "lights out" color using a randomized scattering brush
lower layer: "lights on" color for all windows
bottom layer: basic building architecture
repeat for each building as needed.

others were manually treated depending on what I was looking for... I've got hidden text written in some of the windows, for instance.
