INTERVIEW YOUR CHARACTER
(YOUNG ADULT VERSION)

CONCEPT:
Choose an original character you have created. All questions must be answered from the character's perspective. The character should remain "in character" throughout the interview. The character may refuse to answer a given question, but must say something in reply to it. The character must answer truthfully, but that does not necessarily mean that their answers must be true, only that the character believes them to be true. Have fun.

Several weeks ago, I asked for help from my fellow deviants in the expansion and development of a character interview scenario which I had previously found here on dA. *NordicAngel was the only person who offered to help, and I would like to start by thanking her for all her hard work. I doubt I could have done this without her.

I don't know who created the original list of 101 questions, as the deviant I got it from didn't know where she had found it, herself. Whoever you are, I'd like to thank you, too.

This list of 250 questions is intended to be a tool for developing deep, realistic, and interesting characters. As an aspiring author, I intend to make extensive use of this interview in the creation of characters for my original works. Don't think this is just for ambitious writers, like me, though. Anyone who has ever thought up an O.C. for their favourite story can just have fun sitting their creation down and grilling them. You'd still have to be pretty serious to get all 250 answers out of them, though. In fact:

I challenge anyone and everyone who has ever created an O.C. to put them through this interview and post it here on dA.

I respect anyone who actually succeeds. It is not at all easy to answer every question. Something I know full well, having just finished the first test run with my Naruto O.C. Hitomi. But the difficulty is half the point. One of the most important things this interview does is force you to answer questions you may never have thought to ask otherwise. What's also important is to get you, the creator, thinking about your character. Run them through this interview, and you may be amazed by what comes out of their mouths.

As an example, I put my own O.C. Hitomi Haruka, through the interview. Even though she's usually rather quiet, she rambled on so much that I had to split the interview up into two parts, otherwise it wouldn't have fit within dA's deviation text limit.

Here's part 1 [link]
Here's part 2 [link]

I am aware that some of these questions overlap, and you're probably already thinking of some that could have been incuded, but both *NordicAngel and I consider this list to be fairly comprehensive.

A few words of advice:
First, don't feel constrained by the questions. If your character gets a little off track while answering, thats fine, in fact, that's great! If you have an idea about something totally unrelated to the question you're answering, then it means that this list has succeeded in stimulating your imagination, which is it's entire purpose.
Second, get inside your character's head! Make sure every answer they give is something that the character would actually say. This is the most difficult part of creating a deep and realistic character. You must become the character in thought, philosophy, and emotion. If you can do this, especially with a character who is completely different from you the creator, you will be able to create some truly impressive fiction.
And most importantly, have fun.

If you do post an interview, please link back to this deviation, or at least to my profile, *FifteenthApostle, so that other people can find it.

Also note that this is the "Young Adult" version of the interview. If anyone is interested, I may modify the list to be more appropriate for child and teen characters (it'll be pretty much the same, just with all the heavy sex and violence questions changed or removed). I will be creating child and teen characters for my own story, so I'll have to do it some time. Just ask me if you want to see them posted here on dA.

NEWS FLASH
Somebody has finally done it! Loads of people have accepted my challenge, but so far only one person has managed to complete an interview of their character and post it here on dA. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's my partner in crime, *NordicAngel You can read her interview of her Naruto O.C. Yamamoto Misaki here:

Yamamoto Misaki, by :iconnordicangel: [link]

If anybody else actually manages to get their interview posted, I'd like to put a link to it here so everyone can find it. So who's next? Come on, I dare you!
