Cows in morning mist
Just a little sketch to train drawing scenery and animals - both not my strengths obviously... But it was nice to do something outside my comfort zone. :)
Book of the Dead
This was my fun post-vacation in Egypt project:

It's a scene from the Egyptian Book of the Dead. This is a copy from a papyrus from the Egyptian Museum in Kairo, it's inscribed for Zoser the priest of Bastet and it is from the Ptolomaic period (332-30 BC).

The scene is showing the weighting of the heart and from right to left you see Maat (Justice/ Truth), with the veiled face and the feather on her head leading Zoser to the scales. Horus, the falcon-headed god and Anubis, with the head of a jackal, weighing Zoser's heart (on the left) against a statue of Maat (normally this would be a feather). This process is documented by Thot in his baboon form, sitting on top of the scale and also in his human form with the ibis-head next to Anubis. If the heart is heavier than the feather, the creature to the left of Thot will devour it and thus prevent that the deceased can enter the afterworld. This is Ammit, with the head of a crocodile, the forelegs of a lion and the hind legs of a hippo. Then follows an table with offerings for Osiris, god of the dead, sitting on his throne on the far left.

I did this with various inks on actual papyrus and I have to say it turned out quite good! But man, this border and the 42 tiny Maats on top killed my hand.
I want out!
When Monet meets Lovecraft.

I'm still working on my digital painting skills, but I have to say that I am pretty pleased with this picture.
The discovery of Khaldun
After a prophetic dream, the high priestress of VisRa went on a quest to find the leader her God presaged her. She found Khaldun, resting on a throne, in a room sealed shut, his body showing almost immaculate, his soul savely kept in urn shaped like a scarab. They awoke him and he has been the leader of Nergabath ever since.

If you want to learn more about Nergabath, the city in which the dead keep living (and you speak German) check out the latest issue of the Memoria Myrana fanzine:

There will be more about Nergabath in the next issue, too!

Hello and welcome on my site!

I really love art in all ways. That's the reason I'm doing some small little artworks and that's the reason I'm a Conservator for paintings.
Besides art I love Pen & Paper roleplaying especially DSA (Myranor), Shadowrun, Call of Chtullhu, and much more. Sometimes I also work for a fanzine named "Memoria Myrana", a fanzine for the Dark Eye (DSA) specialised on the continent Myranor:

Current Residence: Somewhere in Germany
Favourite genre of music: Dependent on the mood
Favourite style of art: Art Noveau
The last journal is like... 5 years old, but since I'm not a big journal writer, and therefore am pretty sure that this one will be outdated very quickly, too, I'm doing something more universal this time.
I just have to think of something.
Oh, I know, maybe a little history of my drawing "career". So, here we go:
I started drawing as a kid and was quite convinced to become a famous painter later in life. That's why I kept all of my drawings and collected them, because I thought it would be interesting for art historians to look at my children's paintings once I'm famous. In my imagination I already saw the banner at the National Gallery: "Kirsten Schwabe - The early works". A lack of self-confidence was sure no problem for me as a kid...
During school I kept drawing, painting and scribbling, like, all the time. The teachers never got, that I *actually* (and that was no lie!) could listen better while scribbling. Because of them not believing me, I got trouble more than once. Art classes were, who would have thought, always my favourite. In high school I decided to pick art as intensive course and it was a great. I always loved to *do* art, but the older I got, the lesser got my inspiration for *what* I should do. That's the reason I loved art classes, because there you always got a clear theme, like "Do a painting about the topic of "Work"", or "Romantic landscape" or whatever. Besides school I did some art classes in my free time, too, such as summer courses or an nude drawing course with my best friend. (Um, we both *attended* the same course together. We didn't draw nudes of each other. In case that was unclear...).
When school came to an end I knew I wanted to do something with art, but, alas!, my self-confidence from the childhood and my inspiration had left me, so I decided against a career as an professional artist and went out to become a conservator and restorer for paintings.
As college went on I drew and painted less, besides works *for* college (like this: Klimt Copy). Friends, studies, parties and a long distance relationship with my (then) boyfriend took it's toll. Nevertheless, I never abandoned drawing altogether and soon one of my other hobbies, pen & paper RPGs, brought me back to work, when I started to draw for a fan magazine for one of the systems (Memoria Myrana). One of my drawings did even get published i a real book! (I just noticed, that I never uploaded that pic, but I will!)
Nowadays I do mostly character portraits of my, and others, RPG characters and paint something for someone's birthday or Christmas. But from time to time the urge still gets me and I paint something, just because. =)
