If you choose to use this tutorial as part of a project, please let me know the result. I shall post a link to your goggles here. Let me see your creative side.

Made without special materials or tools, for under forty dollars USD. Ideal for anyone with a taste for the Neo-Victorian and with too much time on their hands. Therefore, tinkering, deviating, and rule breaking are strongly encouraged.

Materials used:
2 mason jar lids (detachable rings like you often see on gourmet preserves.)
tan suede leather
brass belt buckle
4 rectangular brass links
1/2-inch strip sheepshide, unshaven. Sample was cut from a chair cover
A little black oil paint
14 capnuts, 1/4 inch wide
2 wingnuts
a pack of eyelets
Grey smoked Plexiglass

Note that all materials listed are suggestions, not requirements.

I really liked the whole tutorial! It was really helpful, and it was one that was actually the most helpful to myself. I immediately fell in love with these goggles. I have, unfortunately, yet to make them, but I believe that the ease of the tutorial will make the whole process rather smooth and stress free. I like how you leave enough leeway to allow many, if not uncounted changes to be made to suit a person's own preferences. I also am glad you were able to create these wonderful works of art with so few materials and money. I will definitely pass the word along. Long live the Streampunks...

I love it! It was soooo helpful with my costume project (steampunk) that i was making for an art project, and the costume i was wearing to the local (?) anime convention that was last month. I think you are really good on stuff like this, and i they looked at several of your other things and they are amazing! I love you all
I Love Your Art Work. Especially your steam punk stuff.
Lol now im basically just typing how much i like ur stuff to meet the minimum word count. lol. i think you should make more stuff like this

I've only seen a couple tutorials about making your own steampunk goggles and this is the best one so far! I really like how everything was step by step and the outcome was awesome! The instructions are clear and precise. I especially love the lunch bit though haha .....writing critiques are hard :I i always run out of words towards the end!!! Oh yeah! These would go perfect with all the random ideas i come up with for steampunk fashion. Thank you very much for posting this I hope to see more sometime.
-sincerely with much admiration and very little words

What are those metal rectangular link things called and where (in Michigan) can I get them besides the Hobby Lobby?
FenrisDesigns's avatar
I usually see them in fabric and craft shops, among the buckles and fasteners (D-rings, toggles, perhaps even buttons and clip fasteners.)
Dunkelkatze's avatar
I'm making them right now and the connection of the eye-parts was a bit of a challenge. But the rest worked out just fine. They sure will look awesome in the end :)
FenrisDesigns's avatar
I hope so too. Good luck!

Oh. My. Gosh. How brilliant you are. This tutorial is the best one I've seen and I've been searching for a goggle tutorial for two months. *thumbs up* good work.

These are so great. Do you take commissions for them?
FenrisDesigns's avatar
Unfortunately, no.
teachspiderstoread's avatar
how did you make they diy eyelets? A friend and I are making something like this for her comiccon cosplay
FenrisDesigns's avatar
I picked up a pack of eyelets similar to these at a nearby hobby store, but I think most fabric stores have them too. IIRC the halves can be hammered together or squeezed into place with pliers.
tomytieneblas74's avatar
Wow !! I'm a huge admirer of Steampunk and I like this DIY tutorial here ! :D

who knows where to find lenses
FenrisDesigns's avatar
I went to a glass cutter to get my lenses done. Brought the jar lid along as a reference.
