I am loving your character designs, they look great! (I like Ruby's little dress and cape the most.)

Did you know Ruby and Sapphire are the same gem, Corundum, but with different imperfections to make the colors? I don't remember what makes Sapphire, but Ruby is made when chromium is added during the gem's conception. Hehe, sorry, I'm such a nerd about gems, I did a whole presentation for a class about gemstones. Star gems are a result of light reflection of needle or fibrous inclusions within the gem, which happen when the gem is formed. That means there are little tiny needle-shaped crystals in the gem that, when put in the right angle of light, cast a shine shaped like a star! (But you probably already knew this.) Pretty cool, huh?

Thanks! Glad ya like 'em!  These are probably my favorites at the moment as well. ^^

I actually didn't know they were the same stone, to be honest. Though I vaguely remember hearing the bit about star gems several years ago. I think the little gemstone collection book I have went over that briefly. It probably talked about Corundum, too, but I probably glazed over it when I was little.

A lot of the research I've done with them recently has been about their mythology- what powers and abilities people said they had and what they were said to symbolize. With that I create their personalities and if I have enough information, I may even figure out what they're good at and so on. For instance, Ruby- according to my book- is a symbol of passion, love, and friendship. This gave her a super friendly, almost big sister attitude towards most anyone she meets.

Only problem is a lot of "powers" cross over multiple gemstones depending on the source making it have to tell who should act like what and what "powers" should go to whom. Oh well, I'm sure I'll figure something out.

Ooh, very interesting! I think it's okay to have powers and traits mix in with multiple characters as long as they have a unique way of utilizing their  powers and a special flair to their personality that each has a different way with. If that makes any sense? Anyway, I have no doubt you'll create some great and unique characters based on your interpretations of gems!

Hee hee, thanks. I agree about the power crossover thing, as long as each one can stand out in some way, I'm good. ^^

It's still very much a work in progress. I'm not quite sure what it'll end up being, I'm sort of co-writing it with another internet friend and with the holidays we haven't had a whole lot of time to talk about it, but I'm sure a story will surface relatively soon.

Aww... don't be so hard on yourself. My hobby sophomore to senior year in high school was writing a comic series; I've had a lot of practice.
I'm all for doing multiple sketches before setting on a final design, but don't beat yourself up about it. ^^ With that said, I should really take my own advice...
Anyways, like I said, I'm here to help if you need it. Just keep up the good work! ^^
