GIMP Satin Script by fence-post GIMP Satin Script by fence-post
May 29, 2010: Modified the script so that if there's a selection active, the satin will only fill the selected area. Please delete the previous satin script prior to installing this new version.

This GIMP script will create a satin texture based on the steps found in my tutorial here: fence-post.deviantart.com/art/…

On an open image, just go to Filters > Render > Satin... and a window will appear allowing you to choose the color, the color depth, and color lightness. If you just leave the defaults, it will be the same "dark pink" color as described in the tutorial.

Click on the Download link to get the text file and save it to your GIMP scripts folder (ie....C:Program FilesGIMP-2.Xsharegimp2.0scripts) and then go to Xtns > Script-Fu > Refresh Scripts.

Enjoy!

Let me know if you have any trouble or suggestions for improvement.

Great script!

Only thing that I would have done differently is add more color control to it. I'd do it myself but I know ZERO about scripting in Gimp. I sat here for about 20 minutes trying to get a Royal Blue.

Still a 9 on the 10 scale of cool scripts!

Cool script! Only thing I really can't get the knack of is the color. Sat there for 20 minutes trying to get a nice royal blue. Grrrr!

But you get two thumbs up still!

This is so great, but how do I use it to only satin-ize a small portion of the picture? I've tried selecting an area and then working through there, but it insists on making the entire picture a piece of satin.
Thanks!

Posted the updated script. Make sure you delete the other one first so that there are no conflicts. Let me know if you have any problems with it.

Try again. I just checked and it works for me....probably just a hiccup with dA. If you still have problems, let me know and we'll make other arrangements.

Okay, I've read the instructions for this one, and your Rain one, and I tried downloading the rain one but I couldn't figure out what I save it as.

It might be cause I use internet explorer or something, but when I put download and get to the window holding the script text, all I have as options are "Save file as", which saves it as an HTML document, or copy and pasting, but then I don't know what to save it as.

Sorry for the inconveniance... but um...yeah...^__^;;

When you click on the Download link you should also be given the option of just saving it without opening it. Does that happen? If so, just save it to your desktop and then drag/drop it into your GIMP scripts folder. I'm not sure what's going on there because I tried it in Internet Explorer and had no trouble with it.

No, it opens as a browser with the script code in it. :(

Ok, finally figured out the problem.....and it's definitely NOT your fault. It's an Internet Explorer (IE) issue. When you open up the script in IE, copy the entire code (Ctrl+A) and then open up Windows Notepad (should be some place like this Start > Accessories > Notepad). When Notepad opens, paste the code (Ctrl+V) into it. Then, go to File > Save As, locate your GIMP Scripts folder (C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.40\share\gimp\2.0\scripts), give the Script a Name (with a ".scm" extension on the end), and then under "Save as Type" select All Files. Hit the Save button. Then in GIMP go to Xtns > Script-Fu > Refresh Scripts and your script should be ready to use.

Let me know if this does/doesn't work. Because if it does, I'm gonna add this information to a new tutorial that I'm preparing on downloading/installing scripts.

Ok...i tried this tutorial once and the results were great but how do I download the script into the script folder?

I apologize beforehand of being really stupid...but i cant find a way how to download the script. all i get is text when i click the button, not a savable (is that a word?) document.

Actually, the instructions for saving are in the description above:

Click on the Download link to get the text file and save it to your GIMP scripts folder (ie....C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.X\share\gimp\2.0\scripts) and then go to Xtns > Script-Fu > Refresh Scripts.

You should be able to save it by going to File > Save or something similar. Let me know if you're still having problems.
