Hey, guys.

I'm sorry I couldn't spare you a journal about this. ^^;
But this is personal. :(

I want to start off by saying I have never seen a doctor to get diagnose with depression or bipolar mania.
(The only thing I did was do online tests like these [1][2]. :cough:)

If you do have reason to believe you have a mental illness, please work up the courage and talk to others about it and get help!
You are not weak. Asking for help takes a lot of strength!

Ok, you might say "And why didn't you...?" - I have hinted it to my environment before without receiving any attention and somewhat got even more depressed over this fact.

In fact: I seriously planned on committing suicide 3 times in my life!
This is nothing I am proud or ashamed of. It's a simple fact that I have to live with.

I always found a reason to go on. :) The stupidest reasons sometimes (didn't want "them" to succeed, saw a flower/animal/smiling human (yes, seriously!)).
As long as it works it's all fine. (Erm, except drugs...don't do that. :X

Something really motivation for me is how fragile yet strong life is. :)

You see: I was born with a hole in my heart. A physical one not one of the drama ones.
I have not know about this until 2 years ago. Since I was little I have always done sport; loved to run.
It was a shock to learn this after I considered taking my own life 3 times. :O
There are people not as lucky as me. That one day don't wake up.
A little girl born with a hole in her heart like me died when she was three.

Life is a mircale and I really want to see it through to the end. For those that can not do it anymore. :rose:

I wrote a similar journal a while ago. If you are interested, you can find it here.

Some related songs and videos for you to cheer up.

An ode to the healing magic of songs~

Bronies beware: Featuring Derpy (:

A bit more random. (:

If you are interested, here are some shows dealing with similar topics. :)

American Dad's "A Jones for a Smith" in which Stan gets addicted to crack and constantly refuses to accept help despide the great support of his family.

Young Justice's "Disordered"
in which the team tries to get past the experience of a trainings simulation in which everyone died.

The original cast episodes (up to Season 7) of Scrubs dealed with depressions more than once (and once even a broken heart syndrom).
A remarkable episode is "My fall idol" in which Dr. Cox needs help after making a mistake that costs the lives of several people.

It's time to raise our voices
Check out this brilliant tribute to Robin Williams, painted by Yuuza!!
On the lethality of mental illness
We were saddened deeply today to hear that Robin Williams appears to have taken his own life. He was a brilliant, creative mind and a voice for humanity.
I've seen a lot of tributes to him over the past hour or so. Many people have posted clips of his work, quotes, and favorite memories. That's great; it's how we honor someone. But, somehow I feel like we're missing the point.
The point is . . . it's not fucking funny.
EDIT: I am not saying that people are making fun of Robin Williams' death. I am saying that some (not all) people are ignoring the cause of it.
Reports have it that Mr. Williams suffered from depression and possible drug/alcohol abuse. I've also read that he had bipolar disorder. Regardless, what plagued him was lethal, and it plagues so many other human beings acro

I love you for posting this article

It's very encouraging despite dealing with such a serious issue. I do think people who read this and can relate consider getting help or a diagnosis!

I've never heard about a heart condition like yours! It really does sound like a miracle. I truly believe you're still here for a reason!

A bipolar former co-worker of mine once told me that "God only gives you the burden he knows you can handle". In stead of being angry for having a mental illness and having various physical disabilites, she was happy she was the one who fell ill, becasue she knew she's strong enough to someday overcome them, whereas other people would have given up a long time ago, giving in to the illness and maybe even resorting to suicide.
I'm not religious, but I think that was a great way to look at the subject! :)

I really wish I'd sought out help for my eating disorder, so if there is anyone with a possible mental illness reading my comment, I second what Feli said: Please get help!

I'm glad you think so. :huggle:

It's quite unique, yeah. ^^; I'm pretty lucky it's more annoying then hurtfull. :)

Hm, I don't believe in God so I just try give my life some meaning on my own. :aww:

That sounds like an interesting way to look at it. I didn't think anyone could be happy having any kind of illness. ^^;
It is true that others might not be able to deal with it that well though.

"You are not weak. Asking for help takes a lot of strength!"

This part that you wrote here, is so very true!! And truly realizing this, is a big first step. But then, for me, knowing it, and and doing it, are still two different things. I have thoughts, like not wanting to be a bother to others. Or not wanting to burden them with what are my issues, or just feeling too tired and overwhelmed to talk to them. I tend to get reclusive the worse that I feel.

But a big part of my own emotional problems, when I get very depressed, does come from life long medical problems, since a child, which have only become worse instead of better. I try to do many things to distract myself from my own issues, because there isn't much more I can do anymore about my own conditions, so I do other things instead, (like for animals or other people) even if it doesn't improve my own physical well-being.

I think what is most important, even if you don't feel like giving details, is to try to stay as active as physically possible, & stay social. If you don't feel well, physically or emotionally, just say so, but most importantly, don't force it, and don't go off and be alone, because you think that you are alone.

I often remind myself, that I am not the only one with challenges, struggles, and disabilities, in this life. I try to keep it real, and do the best I can. If someone is trying to push me to do more than I can, or to go faster than I can, I just tell them that I'm not able, but that I'm doing the best I can.

Your WHOLE article here is just AWESOME! Because... it is both personal, AND informative, to show what is already out there that deals with these subject matters.  We do not have to search very hard for places to relate to, nor to we have to search far for help, or listening ears.

Thank you for courage and for putting this together.

Yes, that's true. Knowing it and doing it are different matters but it is easier to do if you know about it. :) (Nobody says it's easy though.)

Medical problems are no fun; especially if it keeps getting worse. :(
It's great you still have the strength to share so much love around you! :huggle:
I hope it will get better eventually...

Totally agree with you there.
You can't give more than 100%.

Glad you enjoyed it! :huggle:

Is this because of Robin Williams' death? If so, I don't blame you for putting this up.

Yes and no. (I loved this guy as an actor. I really wanted to see more of him.) It's mostly the reaction I witnessed at work today though.
So many people have died due to depressions already and still nobody seems to be really aware of how dangerous and serious this illness is. :(
We live in a "Smile or die" community and as you grow up there is a lot of pressure on you so even more get depressions. :hmm:
That's why it becomes more and more important to talk about this and raise awareness. :)

Thank you for reading, btw!

I see and completely understand. I actually worry about the effects of depression myself.

Just the thought of someone around you might suffering from depression without you realizing... :(
An acquaintance of my sister just lost her (happily married) mother to depressions.

It is important to be aware of the signs, talk about it and act pro-active.
