I will be honest and say that the older versions are way more interesting and have more depth. The newer one is artificially beautiful. Perhaps a combination of these two styles would be optimal for immersion.

Very nice older art I must say. I am intrigued.

Perhaps do some merge with the two versions using a computer program to see what the result would be? I think it would be amazing.
