Alright, I'm feeling political again. I think I might have caught some new disease.
I've debated with people a small number of times on why I don't vote and apparently why that's stupid.
Here's why I don't vote.
I can't get representation for my ideals. No one represents me. I don't vote because I don't get a say in things. The government will do whatever they feel like doing, regardless of what I believe.
You know how representation works? It's a clever illusion, a cheap magician's trick. Your government and society gave you two ideals, left wing and right wing, to believe in. You've bought into one of them. Oh look! The left wing government you voted in is doing left wing things! They represent me!
They don't. They would have done those things whether you believed in them or not. The fact that you believe in them gives you the illusion of control. THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT REPRESENT YOU, YOU ARE REPRESENTING YOUR GOVERNMENT.
You're confusing correlation with cause and effect. Your government does not believe what they believe in because you do, you've been taught to believe in whatever ideologies your politicians have on offer. THEY ARE LITERALLY TELLING YOU WHAT TO BELIEVE IN.
The fact that they happen to do what you think they should is a coincidence that is meant to feed into your confirmation bias.
