For 2018, I want to do something I've really not done before. I decided that I want to stray outside of my comfort zone in terms of art.
I'm looking towards a more fanart-based year since a majority of my reference sheets are complete. I think I only have about... say... 4 or 5 more refs do draw and two of them are not for Those Toony Kids. I already drew out River, Marie, Alma, and Birdie's refs, and now I just have to create backstories for them. The only 3 anthro refs I have left to draw are Forrester, Sammi, and Meg and they don't need huge design overhauls.
What I mean about a more fanart-based year is that I will draw a lot more fanart than usual. I will also draw characters that I have never drawn before. Possibly, I could try to make the pictures painterly too. A majority of the fanart would probably be from Disney movies, especially from ones I haven't drawn from before. Like this year, I will also draw from Non-Disney movies too.
Another area I am exploring in art is with humans. Since the second half of this year, I have been taking classes outside of DA on learning how to draw humans. On DA at first, I will probably post pictures of Disney Princesses first, and once I get comfortable with drawing people, I may upload some traditional portraits.
The final steps of moving away from my comfort zone are traditional art AND realism. I am also taking classes on how to use mediums such as pastels and charcoal. I am also learning realism in which I am still sorta bad at doing...
I really hope to improve next year. Happy New Year!
