Do you use the lazo tool to make your selections? How much do you blur them? They're perfect!

Whoa, sorry for the late reply! I missed this comment somehow. I do use the lasso sometimes, and other times I just use the pencil or brush tool and my tablet. It all depends on how precise I want the shape to be. I'm pretty sure I used the lasso on this page, and I didn't blur the selections at all here. On this page I did take all the highlights selections on the characters and expanded them a bit and feathered the selection, and then filled those as a glow on a separate layer. That "glow" layer was probably set to Hard Light (if I remember correctly).

Glad you like the page!

love the subtle differentiation between layers in the architecture that you've done with your colouring. I'm always impressed with people that can do surroundings not just figures.

I always find myself unsure of what shapes to put in there and what tonal variations to really establish the location's authenticity, and when the location is a city... well jeez! Again, awesome work.

Overall, I think it's great. Color choices are inspired. Maybe a bit of atmospheric perspective on the the buildings? Also, it's really odd that every light is on in every building. Is that part of the story? It just seems kind of unnatural.

This is going to sound really strange, but his crotch and hip to leg anatomy doesn't seem very well defined. It's really a lineart problem, so I don't know exactly what you can do about it, but the way the wavy, three tone rendering maintains a consistent banding size seems to emphasize it.

Shout out to John Rauch's brushes on the building. Man, I do love those brushes.

Hm, good point about the lights on in every window. I don't know why that never occurred to me. But certainly noted for future night time city scenes!

As far as the atmospheric perspective goes, the buildings get darker as they get further away. Maybe it comes across, maybe it doesn't.

I guess the leg/hip/crotch thing didn't/doesn't jump out at me. I keep going back and looking now, knowing you're probably right.

And yes, that is a brush from his set, good eye. I'd forgotten that brush came from him, since I've mixed and matched so many brush sets into the Frankenstein brush palette I have now.

Man, I don't know why you don't have 100k+ views! I think virtually every colorist on dA could learn so much just from watching what you post here. I LOVE how you lit the city here and I'll probably end up swiping the illuminated windows/dark rooftops idea eventually, so I apologize in advance! The flat colors for the interior of the building work really well too. I wish I could +fav this one twice!
