Hey y’all! Today, I’d like to share a quick artwork I created yesterday. I drew inspiration primarily from Hong Kong and Pinterest, referencing the historical Kowloon Walled City and the iconic Yick Cheong Building, which has appeared in films like Transformers and Ghost in the Shell🎬

I wanted to experiment with drawing using a limited palette while also improving my lighting and shadow skills. This time, I chose a redder palette to evoke a cyberpunk vibe. Consider this piece a glimpse into the world of Kowloon Walled City, where cyberpunk aesthetics meet urban decay. It’s the beginning of a mini project I plan to pursue soon. I do wish I had drawn it on a larger canvas to incorporate more characters and details, but this will suffice for now🤔

For those who have never heard of Kowloon Walled City:

Kowloon Walled City was a unique and densely populated urban settlement in Hong Kong, known for its chaotic and unregulated development. Originally a military outpost, it became a haven for squatters and informal construction, resulting in a maze-like structure of high-rise buildings with minimal planning. At its peak in the 1970s, it housed over 30,000 residents in a mere 6.4 acres, leading to an incredible population density. The Walled City was famous for its vibrant community, thriving underground economy, and lack of effective governance. It was demolished in the early 1990s, and today, the site is a public park, preserving a sense of its historical significance.
