Ezra walked though the ship and into his bunk. He sat down on the bed feeling very downhearted. Kanan then came in. "Hey, are you okay?" He asked standing in the doorway. Ezra didn't reply and Kanan walked further in. "Sabine told me you're really worried about Rex. It's okay to be worried. I am too, but you can't let it overwhelm you to the point where you can't do anything about it." Ezra still didn't say anything and Kanan said, "As much I don't like it either, we have to keep on fighting with or without him, but we will do everything we can to get him back." "That's just it, Kanan." Ezra said looking up at him. "Everything we have isn't good enough. There was a time I though we had a chance against the empire. Now I'm not so sure." Kanan was a bit surprised to hear this and he sat down next to him. "You saw how big that last attack was and we lost so much. We've fought the empire before, but never like that. They're getting bigger and bigger each day as we're just fighting to try and stay alive." Kanan didn't say anything. Ezra sighed and said, "I don't know. It just seemed different. I guess I've just never seen the empire attack like that and it all happened so fast. It just seems like what we're doing isn't making any difference and as we keep doing this more and more people die. I mean we already lost Rex, our ships, weapons.." "Her." Kanan said cutting in. Ezra looked up at him and he said, "I know you cared about her a lot and I think she felt the same. Or she did her best to feel the same. It's not easy living the way she had and then out of nowhere suddenly come out of it. Things in life aren't that simple." "But she was coming out of it, Kanan." Ezra said. "I saw her in the hanger trying to save someone's life. I saw her do everything she could and then Sidious.." "Sidious?!" Kanan said surprised. "He was there?!" Ezra didn't say anything and Kanan asked, "Why didn't you tell me?" "I didn't get the chance." Ezra replied. "I was going to, but everything was just going so fast." "What happened?" Kanan asked. "He saved his life." Ezra replied. "Sidious saved that man's life. And it was David. The one we've been talking to." Kanan looked very surprised and Ezra said, "Yeah I know, weird. I felt the same way." "David didn't mention anything about Sidious or that he even got hurt. Did Sidious say anything to you?" Kanan asked. "All he said was that he wasn't going to hurt me and then he healed him." Ezra replied. "It was really weird and David probably doesn't remember. He was in really bad shape. He looked like he was going to die. It was like Sidious did it cause he wanted to help him. Like he actually didn't want him to die. Raimy went to go find out why he did it and she never came back." Shocked, Kanan thought about this for a few moments trying to figure out why a Sith lord would do something like that. "I wonder why she went back with them again." Ezra said. "She wanted nothing to do with the dark side and she just went back with no second thought." "It's hard to turn away from your roots." Kanan told him. "She was raised under all that by a Sith lord lead to believe power was everything and nothing else mattered. The exact opposite of what Jedi are taught. So when the opportunity came for her to choose, she just went back to what she knew cause she didn't know any different." "But the empire has hurt her so many times." Ezra said. "And she knows how much pain they cause to everyone else in the galaxy. Why would she willingly go back to something like that?" "Maybe she didn't want to, but felt like she didn't have a choice." Kanan replied. "She felt lost and afraid and wanted to, but couldn't see another way and didn't know how to change the way she looked at the world. And that drove her right back to where she started." Ezra didn't say anything and Kanan said, "Lost. Kinda like when we ran into you for the first time." He nudged him with his elbow and Ezra smiled slightly remembering what happened when they first met. "Hey, I wasn't lost." He said offended. "I was doing just fine until you guys stepped in and stole what I was stealing from the empire. If anything you guys were the ones who got in my way." Kanan smiled and said, "Yeah. Let's just call it a draw." Ezra smiled slightly and then asked, "So, what are we going to do about Rex and the other rebels that were captured? We have to try and save them, right?" Kanan didn't answer unsure how they should proceed and Ezra said again, "We are going to save them, right?" "We don't know where they are being held." Kanan told him. "And even if we did we would never be able to pull off a successful rescue mission." "But you said the rebellion is going to do everything they can to get them out." Ezra said. "We will. It's just now isn't the best time." Kanan said. "We can't go up against the empire so soon after what happened." "He might not have much longer." Ezra said. "He could die in imperial custody and we can say that we did absolutely nothing to help." "Ezra, we have no idea where they went." Kanan said. "He could be anywhere in the galaxy by now." "Think Raimy knows?" Ezra asked. Kanan sighed and said, "Even if she did we have no way of contacting her. We don't know where she went either." "Well she got on a ship with the emperor, right?" Ezra said. "And he is sick and where would someone as important as him go for treatment?" Kanan thought for a moment and then said, "The capital of the empire, Coruscant." Ezra nodded in agreement and Kanan asked, "Wait, why do you think he's sick?" "I could see wounds on his face and hands and I could sense something wasn't right." Ezra replied. "Not to mention the way he was acting. I've never heard of a Sith lord do something like that." Kanan thought about this for a few moments and then said, "Sidious, sick? If that's true then the entire empire will be in turmoil. Everything will be disorganized and there will be a lot of confusion going around. Maybe those rebels had something when they said attack now." "I thought we already had a plan though." Ezra said. "And we can still go though with that, but maybe we can move things around a little bit." Kanan replied. "With Sidious out of the way and the imperial day celebration coming up, we could do a lot of damage on Coruscant. And maybe with a little luck take a big step towards freedom. Bigger than we ever thought possible." "Isn't that dangerous though?" Ezra said. "Like those rebels said out there, there's going to be a lot of security at something like that. How would be even get in?" "It's risky, I'll admit that. We may not even have to hit Coruscant. Maybe other smaller outposts that we couldn't get to before." Kanan said. "But this could be the break we've been looking for." "I'm not even totally sure he is sick." Ezra said. "I only saw him for a few minutes. The entire rebellion can't rely on what I saw." "You said you could sense something was off though the force?" Kanan asked. "Yeah. Lighter. Not as dark." Ezra replied. "There wasn't as much darkness around him as like when we could sense Darth Vader from space. It wasn't as cold and the way he spoke was different than I would have imagined. And after he healed David, I think he also seemed a bit unstable. Like he was dizzy or something." There were a few moments of silence as Kanan thought about this and then he said, "Actions of a desperate man. That's why he did what he did. He needs Raimy's help and healing David took the last of his strength. He knew he was sick and needed to do something drastic to change that. He's luring her over with compassion and generosity. Something no one would expect a Sith lord to do. He knows she wouldn't go with him any other way. He may be the dark lord of the Sith with all the power, but he's still human and susceptible to illness." "So you think she didn't go with him cause she wanted to?" Ezra asked. "I think she's being tricked and whatever Sidious has planned for her is going to be bigger than anything we've ever seen." Kanan replied. "Isn't that all the more reason to try and get Raimy out?" Ezra asked. "We'd be stopping Sidious' plan and at the same time saving her." "That is only one possibly." Kanan replied. "We don't know for sure Coruscant is where they went or even if something is wrong with Sidious. I don't doubt your connection to the force, but right now like you said, we can't rely on it. We can't just rush in there without knowing the truth. You may be onto something though. It's a start and that's good enough for now." Ezra didn't say anything. "And even if we did know for sure and they are there, it wouldn't do us any good. We don't know where on Coruscant and the entire planet is under imperial rule. We wouldn't get anywhere, at least not until we know more." "One time you told me the force connects all living things." Ezra said. "What if we can use that to contact Raimy? Talk with her though the force and she can tell us where it's safe to go and also if she knows anything." "Assuming she wants to come back." Kanan said. The expression on Ezra's face instantly turned upside down and Kanan said, "If they did go to Coruscant, that's pretty big meaning she's probably got some say in the situation and if she's getting that kinda power.." "She what, Kanan?" Ezra asked abruptly with anger in his voice. "That she would rather be there than here with friends and people who care about her? That she would rather be alongside killers." Kanan didn't say anything still questioning his Padawan's outlook. "No. She wouldn't do that. She wouldn't do that to us." "All I'm saying is she went back to them for a reason, Ezra." Kanan said. "Maybe this time it's for good and we have more important things to do right now. We can't worry about someone who doesn't want our help." "How can you say that?" Ezra said angrily standing up. "She's good. She's one of us. She wants our help and I want to do everything I can to save her." "But that might lead you down the wrong path, Ezra." Kanan said standing up as well. "Remember what happened with Ahsoka?" Ezra thought for a few moments remembering how he turned to the darkness for more power to use against the empire. "That was different. I can control it now." Ezra said. "I've grown a lot since then." Kanan stood in front of him and said with a friendly smile, "I know you have, but there's just some things we shouldn't mess with." "But Raimy controls it." Ezra said. "She can teach me how and then we will have twice the power to use against the empire." "I said no, Ezra!" Kanan said in a louder tone. Ezra flinched back a little startled and Kanan sighed and said in a softer tone, "Look Ezra, I just don't want you getting hurt. There is so much we don't know about the dark side. So much danger and destruction lurks within it. And I know you know that. You've known that ever since you first opened yourself up to the force. I want to rescue her as much as you do, but there's somethings we just cannot risk." Ezra looked to the side thinking about this and Kanan said, "Right now I need to go talk to Hera about what you told me and we will find a way to free Rex and the others and after that we'll see." He put his hand on Ezra's shoulder. He looked up at him for a moment, but was still very keen on finding Raimy.
