i was thinking of a 3D stamp for scalepatterns like these... 
mine is fast but your tecnique is much better.

Did you put something inside the raised part of the leather to keep its shape? Or did you just stretch it and leave it as it is?
This dragonscale looks so "real." o.o It's amazing. xD
I love the texture and stylings, I think I slightly prefer the one on the left as well, but both look amazing.
