Fitting to the theme "good vs. evil" i thought about participating this contest but its not fitting with the rules in the end.
Referring to the "marriage of heaven and hell" - piece;… there is a nice and fitting sentence from William Blakes story - in short the essence: "good cannot be without evil" and day cannot be without night, no shadow without light.

*edit start*
It has been brought to my attention by CarlosVasseur that my creatures look similar to the "Nüwa and Fuxi" ilustrations from early Eastern mytholgy *quote from Wikipedia: nǚwā, (also Nügua) is a mythological character with a snake body and a human head, best known for creating mankind and repairing the walls of heaven.
Fu -Xi is a culture hero reputed to be the inventor of writing, fishing, and trapping.
Its interresting for me, because i havn´t knew this all before!
Ideally Fu -Xi would be male, but i refer to this character with the fish in her hand as VERY fitting...
*edit end*

With that idea in mind, i took the chance to realize this idea with the permission of and portraying the models - Lauren Kain and Shay Lynn, stock reference used for the water/stone thing, all painted with my wacom Intuos a6 wide and photoshop 7.

This piece is part of Francesco D´Isa´s p0rnsaints - project, more updates and infos about this subject in a journal then, when its released on their page.

This one captured my attention almost immediately - a very fresh setting, good color palette and composition choice. The mermaids bodies painted really well and the whole 'figures' looks aesthetically pleasing.

On a critical note, there are three things I could suggest to improve in your future painting(s). The mermaids should be wet but their skin doesn't reflect that. Maybe you did it with purpose but some strong highlights and reflections (and water drips) would help to depict the realistic scenery. The rocks should be wet too - once again it's achieved with highlights but you paint them as matte object. And finally the water is an interesting object to paint, the foreground foam looks good but splashes and the rest of the waves are quite undeveloped.

But basically it's a very good artwork with nice atmosphere and intriguing story behind.

I think the composition is very orignal... two sirenes that are totally the oposite color of skin makes a great balance in the life of a man . Also the total difference of their hair color makes it nicer. A very classic orginal mixed together like painting! Just a very tiny flaw for the technique, even if I am not a professionnal and had the knowledge of Fantasio, I would do more details on their tails

For the impact I guess that every lonely mariner would love this painting, everywhere in the world ...(known hehehe). The water is truly made by a master hand, yes that is Fantasio style. Keep it up!

First off, thanks for taking the time! Due to the tail i have to say i was thinking about doing more details on it, but its not the first time i did such a tails: [link]
but in this composition the background is more prominent, so i decided to have it less interfering.

This is such a lovely piece of work, I'm really sorry that the rules for Good vs Evil are too strict, I would've submitted some naked stuff too, but hey, life's harsh.
I go for the critique that says you should've made their tails a bit more detail, but I still like the idea of them being as "immaterial" as you pictured them.
I'm not sure if the shape of the splashes really matches known physics, but the way you rendered it is fantastic, very realistic, I think I should be taking some lessons.
I'm really not sure what the fish is supposed to represent, to me it symbolizes Christianity, but maybe your personal idea had a deeper meaning.
I have to conclude with the idea that if you were accepted to Good vs Evil, this would've been a favorite for the big prize and very good competition (seriously, I didn't really find such competitive and original artwork submitted there).

PS: Oh, yeah, and the way the horizon curves to suggest some distortion of the general view, it really takes me to the beginning of the world.

thank you for this wonderful comment -which i appreciate a lot!
i have taken a distance from the contest, as it would not been "fitting to the brand" in m opinion, and as it should fit on every wacom advertising, printed and hang across the i don´t see that fitting, for the contest theme - i could imagine very well - but i observed that this is sometimes 2 different things.

You're welcome, and you're probably right about the contest... I expect some new works from you soon!

Important thing about an artwork is to urge the others using their minds, feelings.
I think you succeed this with Nite & Day.
Your symbols are very strong, your colors and drawing are perfect. Thanks for creating such a work!

thanks, i´m glad you point this out, and indeed it seems to start some interresting discussion;-)
i always liked that, rather than something else -
you´re welcome!

There are some universal archetypes in Nite & Day; water, black&white fish/mermaid, women, wind... These are all subconscious themes. I feel your artwork from this point of view. But some one may say; "God, what a beautiful breast!" :D
Both are fine, as long as you create feelings with your work. ;)
That's why it's valuable. :)

It also reminds me two paintings of William Bouguereau Dawn [link] & Twilight [link]

thank you so much!
i really appreciate the links, and feel very honoured when you make this reference.

basically i refuse to be influenced by just one artist or theme, rather i try to mix influences - i´ve also a naturally interest in attitude and feeling in imagery, thats why i try to achieve that too;-)

Why is there a weird thing with the lights?
On the characters, the light seems to come from the right top corner, but on the sea, it seems to come from the left top corner... Is it normal?

Very interestful and beautyful artwork !

thank you for the comment.

its not mormal, also the horizont -line and the water circles on the foot of the rock isn´t normal here...

could be brighter in the lower right corner i have to admit- but i´m too lazy to work on over:P
