I did paint the whole Landscape and the Castle!
But, the landscape is heavily based on a painting from Albert Bierstadt - check out his amazing works: www.albertbierstadt.org/
The work is in Public Domain, according to: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fil…
What does that mean? fairuse.stanford.edu/overview/…
Actually the jpegs of this specific work for reference, were in such a bad quality that I had to paint the whole image from scratch - a nice test for me and I created some useful brushes along the way. Since I had no usable hi-res source, I hope you can accept the little flaws in it, most stuff is painted from imagination and my personal interpretation of huge jpeg-artifacts
Good part of having to paint the whole thing was that I was able to push it more into a Miyazaki kind of mood and coloring that matches the concept that I originally had in mind.
The intention behind this is to learn from the old masters, Mastercopies are good, but actually there´s no better way of studying them than to get your hands dirty and spend 10 hours in the image and paint something that is not there. This time it took me around 20 hours.
Actually I´m positively surprised about how well my recent Kaiju-piece and the Star Wars piece was perceived, thanks so much!
For the Kaiju Fans: Leatherback is still in progress
This is part of a study-series, called "Ancient Kaiju project (...and other big things)"
Suggestion for other Kaiju´s or big cinematic - things are welcome as well as also constructive comments!!
Ohmu is planned as well as also the robot from Laputa.
I like popculture and I love traditional art, so this project came so naturally to me and since the paintings are public domain, no one was harmed, not even the original paintings!
There is no intention to sell these images, I did them for learning purposes and use them in my classes as well, however, if you want it as a wallpaper, feel free to hit the download-button to get the 2560x1500 px version.

I think this is absolutely beautiful! All the details are on point, I really like that you made the colors of the castle more desaturated to depict age. Heck, you even put details in the grass! I just think that maybe you could touch it up a little bit in Photoshop if you have it, like changing the hue a little. Or unless it isn't part of your general style, you could make the lighting a little more dynamic, adding rays of sunlight or some rim lighting in a couple of places. Other than those pretty minor things, this is one of the best paintings I've ever seen. One more tip: this is completely optional, but you could add your signature or watermark.
This is really cool. It reminds me of some beautiful, quirky surrealism I saw on the internet a couple of days ago. I like how you took inspiration from a real painting. The lighting is nicely done, and so is the background. So much beautiful, neat detail! The only things I would change had this been mine would be the smoke and a little bit of messiness at the base of the waterfall mountain. In my opinion, the smoke sort of.....clutters up the painting. I could never do this. Very nicely done. Please keep up the awesome work!! Very lovely!
Omgosh, this just takes me back to my childhood. You did an excellent job on this! (This is my new screen saver on my Desktop). I viewed the images that you used as references, and omgosh, I just can't even think of the words to describe this to you about how beautiful it is. You got the castle perfect, you got the characters, you got a little town, scenery, everything is just on key with this. And the mountains in the background really help balance out all of the dark spots and the shading that you have. My eyes are really drawn towards the waterfall, and the mist resonating off of it. Oh my gosh, once again, I can't even put it into words. Good job, and congratulations on the DD, this one deserves it.
Thank you very much! I see so many great pieces of work with no critiques and sometimes no comments, when they deserve it! I saw the other guys critiques and well, that wasn't really a critique and put really not effort into it at all. I actually love doing critiques on pieces that have my interest, thank you again for your kind comment!
Was a big fan of the movie and this bring me back. Could be a little more brighter little hard to see the details.
