This scene makes me admire the work of the graphic artists who brought such life and emotion to Gollum's eyes... brimming with tears *sob*. So lifelike as well, like a fetus in its innocence... I love the lighting, you've highlighted everything so perfectly. The textures that you've brought to life... and those EYES. This has the rawness of a charcoal drawing with a crisp finesse.

:huggle: Thank you so much for such kind words! This one was a difficult one since I'm used to drawing with graphite pencils but this is done with white and grey colored pencils on black paper.

Wait... was Gollum really crying in this scene? *opens a new tab to YouTube to find and watch scene* Yes he was... he was so damn pale in the movie I missed it. Now I feel even worse for him in this scene...

Qustion. You seem like you know what your doing. When your drawing a portrait what are some techniques you use to get the proportions and placement correct? Awesome drawings by the way, The lord of the rings is one of the greatest stories of all time and the artwork is phonominal!

:D It's good to know that I seem to know what I'm doing. I use a grid method to get the proportions exactly right :) Just as simple as that.
I'm so glad you enjoy my LotR fanart!! It means A LOT to me! Thank you very much! :huggle:

Good grief. Gollum is one of my daughter's favorite characters (I can't wait to show her this!). I have to tell you...I think I mentioned that she is schooled at home? Well, she was doing a math test the other day, and as she was going along, suddenly she shouts, "we knows! we knows! sss, shut ups!" I howled.  She also learned how to play chess a few weeks ago, and she challenged me to a game (I should have refused, I lost my butt.) and at the beginning, she put her hands under her chin with THAT look and said, "well! Baggins first!" Yes, it's like that all the time here.
Anyway. This was a very powerful scene in the movie, and I'm so glad you captured it on paper. Stunning work as always.

:giggle: OH my god! :D I think I've said it before but I'll say it again! Your daughter is awesome!! You've done a great job raising her :) Oh, I wish I had a sister or a brother. I hate being the only child. I'd like to show LotR and Harry Potter to my little relative. Or read to him/her. Anyway, I'm happy to read that you like this drawing! It means a lot to me

Just as a side note, I have a half-sister and she's my best friend. We didn't grow up together - she was adopted out as a baby and only found my mom (we have different dads) when she was in college. We are 15 years apart in age, so we never had the sort of relationship that most siblings have. My mom was old when she had me, so I'm doing the things now with my daughter that I never got to do as a kid.
Maybe when you're out of Uni, you can do something like volunteer at a library or youth group to get that sort of experience - it's a heady thing to introduce children to fandoms such as Potter and LOTR and see their eyes light up! The next thing I want my daughter to get into is the Wrinkle in Time series, but she's balking at it. We're reading LOTR, but it's slow going. Sometimes I'm tempted to skip the "pretty leaves on the pretty trees with pretty bark in the lovely sun and the warm wind and the...." I love description, but reading it aloud is rough!!
