Warlord of Spring

From the same sketchbook as 'Gaius and the Teepo Hoodie'. I may or may not get around to the other three warlords at some point. In case anyone is wondering what kanji he is holding it is 'Haru' or 'Spring' which is the season he represents. My only issue personally with this is how round his face turned out. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with the overall piece. Shuten is the easiest of the four warlords to draw mostly because his hair is so straight and doesn't do all the weird stuff that Naaza and Anubis' hairstyle do. If I get around to the other ones I will probably do them in order which would place Rajura next as Summer. Not sure what I'd use for his background shape though: maybe watermelon?

Love it!

Watermelon might be too green for Rajura. What about fireworks or dragonflies?

Hmm. Dragonflies would work since they are most common for summer months and do symbolize summer. Thanks for the idea ^-^

No problem!

And I looked all over but Chinese kanji are NOT my strong suit. I couldn't find anything. I'm sorry T-T

I'm unfamiliar with Yoroiden, but the colors came out great!  Very smooth and well shaded, and the sakura pattern makes an excellent background.

Yoroiden Samurai Troopers was my first major foray into fandoms when it came stateside while I was growing up. It's a nicely written two-season anime that I do not recommend watching in English. The series is much better in Japanese with subtitles and the dub was done at a time when America tended to...well make stupid dubbing decisions that make no real sense.

I'm excited that you like how the shading turned out. Shading has always been the bane of my existence as an artist. The sakura pattern was the only thing that made sense for spring and is one of the easier flowers to draw. To this day the rose remains difficult. I'm so happy you liked this piece ^-^

If you are interested I think you can still find episodes on either youtube or crunchy roll.

I hate dubs.  Anything is better in it's original language.  So no risk there.  I haven't watched much anime in quite a long time because of it.  I often want to be doing something while I watch and I can't if I'm relying on subtitles.  I may look into it some time.  I feel like, eventually I'll go back on an anime kick.  Everything I enjoy doing comes and goes in waves.

Shading is definitely a pain, especially when you want to evenly fill a space with traditional media!  Sakura are a great symbol for spring, and roses are terrible.  I mean, pretty, but terrible XD  Carnations too.

Thank you. Shuten is still I think, one of the best written villain to protagonist transition character ever written.

Your best one so far, love the background, then again I am a sucker for cherry blossom a

I think a lot of people are 'suckers' for cherry blossoms. Myself included in this list. Even living in a country where they don't grow naturally I always think of them when spring is near.

Awww. I think that if you made his cheekbone a little higher, it wouldn't look so round along with making his chin a little flatter to give him a stronger and more masculine jawline.

Either way, this turned out really great.

I think that for Rajura and his background, I would go with the watermelon. Very traditional Japanese summer fruit right there. :)

I'm glad you like how this turned out.

Watermelon it is then! I already know that Naaza will be Japanese Maple leaves and that Anubis will have snowflakes . Whelp. I've said it now I gotta do it.
