Nova Class Refit - Bridge (Render 1) by falke2009 Nova Class Refit - Bridge (Render 1) by falke2009
My take on the interior of the Nova class refit/variant from Star Trek.

EDIT (29/07/2017): Some texture changes.
EDIT (17/11/2018): Re-rendered the image to reflect the structural changes I've made to the model. Some lighting and texture changes as well.

You can see the cutaway isometric drawing here: Isometric view.

Modelled with Sketchup. Rendered with Kerkythea.
Based on and inspired by original designs from:
-Star Trek (CBS)
-USS Poseidon RPG-X map by William and Anthony
-Nova class deck plans by John D. Lees
Star Trek belongs to CBS. I am not associated with CBS Television Studios and no copyright infringement is intended with this fan art.

Didn't you like Voyager's bridge design then?

Impressive. Are these your own layouts?

Thanks. Is I've stated in the image description, the bridge layout and design elements are greatly derived from an Elite Force mod of the U.S.S Poseidon (link in description). But I've modelled the whole thing myself with quite a few modifications. (Hope I understood your question correctly.)

It does, and my apologies for no suitably reading the descriptive dialogue. I felt that it had a Voyager feel to it. It is nevertheless in the spirit of the era in which it is presented and frankly a very functional design. As you and I both know, anyone can design a command center but most fans simply throw things together with the vaguest of understanding, but you clearly have put considerable thought into function and that is what keeps me coming back to see your presentations.

Thank you very much. I'm glad you appreciate all the work that goes into these images. I do tend to spend quite a bit of time on them (sometimes too much). I sometimes go back and fine tune some of my older models. I've modified this one a few times over the past few years.

I trained as a engineer and although my own art skills (if you can call them that) are an adaption of my draftsmans skills (pencil, pen, paper) as I never mastered CGI tools (beyond making stuff in Second Life) so I know how engineers think, especially in regards to ergonomics and people. Because ultimately although a ship or a vehicle is a environment, it is designed to be interacted with by people and people have a range of movements and requirements for fluid movement, fluid interaction and well, most designers (even in fandom) simply do not think beyond the 'surface' look and feel of something so seeing your work is both refreshing and admirable.

My own designs are created with engineering requirements in mind and ergonomics the primary thrust of layouts and space usage.

Since you are an engineer, this is high praise indeed. I have no engineering expertise, but I always try to work according to scale and try to imagine people actually moving and working in the room. I found that being realistic in terms of such things makes a huge difference in making a convincing piece of work.

I realize this is a Nova-class refit bridge but this layout should be a new standardized "Template" for some of the newer, more advanced, BUT smaller ships in the fleet, such as the Saber-class, the Norway-class, the Steamrunners and the late 24th century-refit Oberth and even the refit Mirandas and Mirand-offshoots as a new standard.  Just because some ships are smaller doesn't mean they can't be up to date with ship's systems.  Voyager proved a smaller vessel can still hold its own through tough spots and deep space trials, IF properly equipped.

I agree. No reason to skimp on the smaller ships just because of their size!

That wonderful stainless steel look
You'd think Paramount could do that.
brushed aluminum no thicker than a can could do the same effect....

It'd be neat to have that unique frosted effect on the corridor halls

Dear Falke,

Nige, please let me know when you can reasonably do up a few images of the Nova Class crew quarters (with bunk beds), computer core, and Main Cargo Bay.

I hope you take my suggestion, and do the inside of the Nova Class computer core next.  That section leads right to the entrance of the Waverider Shuttle.

Please make the few corrections to the dedication plaque I sent, when you have a chance!

I screwed up--it's supposed to read 20:18 UTC    NOT   18:20 EDT (eastern daylight time)

That was the time the Eagle landed on the Moon
