Leeroy amber dragon egg work in progress by fairyfrog Leeroy amber dragon egg work in progress by fairyfrog
Intaglio time! (read more about the reversed engraving technique in my Intaglio gallery folder!)
My amber work has been resting for a while but now in Easter times I'm working on a tiny wrinkly elder dragon frozen in time!

Meet Leeroy. ;)

There will be two sides to him, I split an amber egg in two and burr a double engraving. Lots of work, need to take every angle into consideration as well as the varying magnifying effect of the shape.
Not finished yet, he will get a pretty silver bezel covering the cut and possibly some other adornments. I have plans..! :squee:

(finished!)

That. Is. Amazing. ^.^ What kind of resin did you use for the amber?

I ended up using epozy. Messy but efficient.
Along with glass/enamel paints, pure pigment, acrylics.. Er. "Mixed media". And a polishing creme made for cars to remove rust. *lol*

Hihi! I like pushing the envelope every single time. Making things you already tried is boring! :)
Took a lot of sketching and planning before I dared sawing the egg in half though.

Problem is when blowing up something from the tiny size of an inch to cover a whole screen.. it looks so distorted and uneven when you do.. Most of the work is done with 1mm ball burrs.. :)
